It's based on real science, but unfortunately those tests were in a lab, with pure testosterone (not trace amounts in urine), with specific protocol in terms of cooling, heating, adding chemicals one by one, reheating, recooling, etc etc. So that would explain all the inaccurate results.

Here's the study where the 10 weeks vs 14 weeks comes into play:

http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/119635392/abstract?CRETRY=1&SRETRY=0

Here's a possible origin for BBG's pseudo-science - also explains why you need to be off progesterone supps 10 days as progesterone reacts the same as testosterone with these chemicals (of course, prog levels are higher normally in pregnancy so lots of ladies would get false boy results):

1939 Paper:
http://www.jbc.org/content/131/2/463.full.pdf

Phenolsulfonate + Phosphoric acid = dark brown/green for estrogen
Phenolsulfonate + Phosphoric acid = yellow/yellow-brown for testosterone OR progesterone

And for Intelligender, though I don't think thiocol is made anymore so they must have changed it a bit:

1941 Paper:
http://www.jbc.org/content/141/2/487.full.pdf

Phenolsulfonic Acid + Sulfuric Acid = red for estrogen
Sulfuric Acid + Thiocol + Copper/Iron salts = green for testosterone
(Hydrogen Peroxide destroys the green color)

Re: If Intelligender and Best Baby are just ph tests- then why.......

I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking maybe it detects testosterone from male babies, because I think I read somewhere that testosterone is produced after a certain week, but I could be wrong? I have no idea, but I also got the same results as you. I took two Intelligender tests, one at 10 weeks and one at 12 weeks... both gave me a boy result. Then I tried a Best Baby at 14 weeks which also turned green as Intelligender, but green on that test is a girl result. I have heard they are both PH and Best Baby is just a knock off of Intelligender and they just switched which color are which results. I went into it just for fun, and it drove me crazy, lol. If it wasn't $30 I'd buy another one and try once more before my scan on Saturday, just to ease my mind I suppose.

If Intelligender and Best Baby are just ph tests- then why.......

I have been doing alot of reading in the gender formus the last few days. And there is one thing I cannot find the answer to: Intelligender is to be done at 10+ wks. Best Baby at 14+ wks. If these are just simple PH tests why is it that if testing your urine with simple PH strips it is only valid until 8 weeks and not after?

The reason is... I got a BOY result with Intelligender at 10 weeks a GIRL result with Best Baby at 14 weeks. Since then I have been testing my urine approx. 2x a week and have gotten low PH results on a steady basis- but apparently it doesn't mean anything since I didn't do it prior to 8 weeks? Thoughts?
