Duh! I have no idea why I didn't think of this before!!! I feel so stupid. Anyhow, pasteurized eggs are safe and have a higher pH. Here is a link that tells you the simple steps to pasteurize your own eggs. Note the temp is suppose to be 145-150, not higher!

For some people there egg whites will not float on top of semen. We discovered the reason for this is the sugar content in the semen. If you don't have enough sugar then the density is off. You can fix this. Please remember, to much sugar will kill sperm so please try to stick to the suggested amount or less. Sugar water does not change pH.

Generally the rule is mix 1 tsp sugar with 2tsp distilled water and dissolve the sugar in the water. Then collect your semen, and add SW that is half the amount of semen to the sample.

So for example, if you had 2ml of semen, then you would add 1 ml of sw. Some people are adding just a little less of SW, say 0.9ml to see if that works. So now you have 3ml sample (2ml semen, 1ml sw) and you mix that by rocking back and forth. THEN you add EW on top that is the same amount as the semen you originally collected, in this eg, it is 2ml.

So then in your incubator you would have a 5ml sample, 3ml would be the sw/semen mix and the top 2ml would be EW.

Shorter version for reference:

SW = 1 tsp sugar to 2 tsp distilled water

Mix 1/2 semen volume of SW with Semen (rocking motion)

add EW same volume as original semen volume.

I've been using tablespoons to mix the SW, then I have a lot in case of a mistake. teaspoons are pretty small and harder to work with, but I think as long as the ratio is the same it should be OK right?

DO NOT DO HOME IUI. Do not place anything into your uterus. No tubes no matter what kits you find on the internet. The reason for this is you can cause great infection and death. There are 3 parts to the vj (simplified). The main area of the vj (where the penis goes), then the cervix (this dips down like a cone and has a hole in the middle leads a tunnel up into the uterus) and the uterus. Where this post is talking about is inside the cervix (up in the tunnel) and into the uterus.

How to see sperm and know you had a good sort

How to see sperm with a cheap microscope: Set the middle adjuster to high and put the magnification in the middle- 300-500. Then place on the sample with the plastic on top on the slide and insert the slide. place the color wheel to either green, blue, or red and then look threw the scope. Slowly focus on a bubble or something till you can see it clearly. Now look around, you should see sperm and can adjust better to see them

To see how good a sort is you need to use a microscope so you can see the layers. The top 5-20% (somewhere in there) of the egg white will be shooting star sperm- these in theory are the super x swimmers. The next layer of ew is the fast strait swimmers. Then that layer that touches ew to semen will be mixed (strait and slow). The semen layer will have slow and circle sperm. If you see black sperm this is dead sperm. Sperm that aren't moving but aren't black are not dead.

for ttc a boy you want to use the ew layer that doesn't include the top 5-20% or the part that touches semen

for ttc a girl you want to use only semen and not the part that touches the ew

Remember though this isn't 100%. And you need to do diet, supplements, pH, and ions along with it

Ok this poster was so smart. She combined the old thread/theory about the jar study with her dh not being home for o+12. Here is this GREAT tip...

is your dh not going to be around for o+12? Then have him give a sample! Place that sample in a covered container (not plastic) in a humid bathroom- this sample will live up to 4 hours. OR

You place sample in a container and store it in your bra.. this can live up to 12 hours!!

You TBM when you need to with this. But you are also using the jar study which was said to favor girls anyway. For a jar you can use a tiny baby food glass jar that is clean.

How to use an instead cup or diva cup (or moon cup)

I thought I had this as a sticky once but it is long lost. So here it is again..how to insert a cup without spilling:

For the instead cup:

Open instead cup
Make sure to push the bottom all the way down
Place sample in the bottom
Carefully pick up instead cup and pinch it like a taco (see pic below) making sure that the bottom hangs low so as not to spill.
Put one foot up on the toilet
With your other hand hold open your vj with your finger so you make your entrance bigger
Place 1/4 of cup in vj and STOP
Carefully with that other hand try to make your vj bigger
Tilt the cup just slightly back (not so much) and only push a little then stop.
With your hand still holding open vj push cup in just enough so you can let go of the taco so it will open up. This will mean 1/2 the instead cup will be open outside your vj. This is ok because the sample will now slosh forward into the vj
Slowly while watching the cup and holding open vj, push cup in making sure nothing leaks out.. be very slow. You may have to tilt it slightly
Once cup is in make sure it is sitting behind pubic bone

***If you live in AU they do not sell instead cups. But you need it for ttc a boy so you can contact the softcup company and they will mail 2 to you for free. These are reusable if you wash them in hot soapy water.

How to use a Diva cup (or moon cup if you live outside the US) without spilling

Open up diva cup
Place sample in bottom of cup
Push on the top middle of the cup and bring the sides in together making something that looks like a letter c (keep upright! see pic below)
With one leg on the toilet take your other hand and open up vj wide.
Push C shaped diva cup strait into vj
Once you are about 1/2 way or even less allow cup to open.. this may mean 1/2 the cup will still be sticking out.
push cup in rest of the way then twist to make sure it is open fully

Microscope: (for ttc boy or girl) If you buy your own, it must have a color wheel (real name of the color wheel is disk diaphragm) and be 100-900 (you use the middle). The more expenstive the microscop the easier it will be to see the sperm! The high end moddles do not ned the color wheel. There are some that also can be hooke up to the computer for easy viewing.

**People have found buying a real centerfuge off of ebay works MUCH better.. keep you eye out for a cheap one (around 50$ plus shipping )and a slower one. You want to find one that does a speed of 3000rpms or slower.

Toy centerfuge (for ttc a girl) has been found NOT TO WORK! Do not buy it! Your best bet is to watch ebay!

How Safe Is EGS?

Extreme Gender swaying (as is all swaying except for at home iui) is 100% safe. You can not damage sperm DNA once it leaves dh's body. Lime, GDC, SU, MSU, Egg whites and baking soda all are safe and can not damage sperm in any way -this has been verified by 4 doctors that I have asked personally, by some biologists and by the doctors doing the studies (please see studies in FAQ forum about pH). Miscarriage is not caused by swaying but rather the ovum. Each time you ttc you only have a 20% chance at pregnancy if you bd on o day. This is because 80% of all eggs are defective. Once you get pg you have a 1 in 4 chance of mc.

TTC a boy -Extreme Gender Swaying *2 methods-MSU, and TBM

There are two methods for ttc a boy: Modified swim up and TBM:

If you need a grantee of a boy you NEED to do high tech!

**When sucking up the little spermies and "implanting" them into the V, you need to do this slowly. Not just a quick squirt. The reasoning is that the force will break the tails off the sperm, thus paralyzing them from moving toward the goal. You can not damage sperm dna. This is safe for you and your baby.

Modified swim up for ttc a boy:

The theory of this method is Y sperm thrives on the perfect pH (8-9.9.) So if we provided that pH it will encourage the y sperm over the x sperm. Also that a small percentage of the X-bearing sperm are the fastest, followed by the Y-bearing sperm, then slowest are the majority of X-bearing sperm. Semen is placed in the bottom of a test tube and the sperm swim up wards through an egg white-like substance, to the top of the tube. By way of timing (first to arrive are discarded), the Y-bearing sperm (second to arrive) are selected and inserted with an instead cup.

Egg whites pH need to be 9-9.9. If it is more than 9.9 it will kill sperm. So please read the egg white mix recipe below. If it is less than 9 it will not work well to sort sperm. Buy several different brands of eggs to find which one has the best pH. To raise pH you wash egg shell and store in fridge for 2 weeks in a glass bowl. Warm egg whites have a higher pH. Do not warm egg whites in microwave. There is no other way to raise pH of egg whites (baking soda will not raise pH high enough, sorry)

Egg White Mix Recipe:-->-->

First check real EW pH. If it is less than 10 then you don’t need to do this. ….You can use preseed to lower pH to a 9. Add just one drop at a time and mix with egg white till the pH of this mixture be 9-9.9.

The pH of the egg whites is extremely important. If your egg whites don't have a pH between 9-9.9 then you either need to lower the pH (if it is a 10) or use a different egg ( if it is unpasteurized then pasteurize it at home)

Baking Soda Douche Recipe: -->-->

Dissolve: 2 tablespoons of BAKING SODA + 1 liter of warm WATER. Let solution sit for 10 minutes before use. -->-->

The Method:-->-->

Step 1: Dh to DTD in a cup or condom.-->-->

Step 2: Place semen in bottom of test tube-note the measurement.-->-->

Step 3: Gently place an equal amount of warm egg white mixture on top of semen in test tube (ie, 2mls of egg white solution, if 2mls of semen). Place it in the middle of the test tube and do not touch the tip of the dropper to the semen. This should remain floating on top of semen.-->-->

Step 4: Place test tube in incubator at a 45 degree angle (temp in incubator should be approx 99F, you may have to put a light towel around base it to reach this temp but do NOT go over 100F as this will slow the sperm down). *Take note of time, or set a timer for 1 hour.-->-->

Step 5: Douche a small amount of the above Baking Soda + Water Recipe using a medicine dropper or douche bottle. or use bsfinger-->-->

Step 6: After 1 hour, use a medicine dropper to suck up a small portion (approx 20% or 0.4mls, if total was 2mls egg white used) off the TOP of test tube. Looking under the microscope, these should be the 'super-fast' X-bearing sperm (if no sperm are found in this very top, then take another portion until the fastest sperm are detected). Discard this portion.-->-->

Step 7: Using a different medicine dropper, suck up the next 'section' of mixture (rest of egg white mix). Looking under the microscope with one small drop, these sperm should appear to be moving in a strait line, (just use a little for the microscope.) These are majority Y-bearing sperm. Keep this portion. Only keep Egg white mix to insert, Semen will not be used.-->-->

Step 8: You may want to now double check that the last portion, which you should only have semen remaining, has the circle moving sperm. Make sure you don't mix these up with the portion above! Discard these slow swimmers. -->-->

Step 9: Optional: Insert a small amount of EW to coat your cervix and surrounding area. This is highly recommended if there is a lack of ewcm. -->-->

Step 10: Gently transfer the sperm/egg white mix into the 'instead cup'. Secure the cup around your cervix and leave in for 90 minutes trying to O as much as possible

TBM for boy This method is for ttc a ds. The principle of this method is that the Y sperm thrive in an alkaline environment. By artificially creating this environment the theory is that the Y sperm will become more energized and strengthened by using the perfect pH. This will give the Y sperm an advantage over the X sperm.

Step 10 Put in instead cup and leave for 90 minutes. Try to O as often as possible before and after instead cup is inserted. Do not lay down for these 90 minutes; remain upright the entire time

TTC a girl -Extreme Gender Swaying *3 methods- GDC, SU, and TBM

This is Extreme Gender Swaying for ttc a girl. Shawell made this with help from me from the baby center board. PLEASE NOTE! If you need a guarantee of a girl you NEED to do high tech.

There are 3 methods for ttc a girl with extreme gender swaying: Turkey Baster Method (TBM), Swim Up (SU) and Gradient Density Centrifuge (GDC). All should be done with o+12. GDC is always done with SU, and should be done with TBM and o+12. SU is done with TBM at o+12. The abbreviations for these would look like this: GDC/SU/TBM, SU/TBM and just TBM. All methods need to also incorporate diet, supplements, pH, ions and the rest of the stuff found in the swaying forum.

We are going to add Swim Down for those who cannot get the egg white to float. Please scroll down to the bottom for the method ** It is better to do Swim Up but Swim Down is better than not doing EGS at all.

TBM (turkey baster method)

Have your DH give you a "sample". catch it in a either a cup or in a non-spermicidal condom. add warm lime (body temp 98-99*f) to the sample to get it to a ph of 4-4.5. Do not warm lime in microwave- warm in hot sink. Mix gently by swirling around and let sit for a few minutes (never longer than 10). then, use a needle-less medicine syringe to insert the mixture into you. Lay with hips raised or jump and dump. your choice!!! :) GL!!!

Aways use this with the 7 sway factors

The number of drops of lime you will use will depend on the size of your DH's sample, the ph the sample starts out at and the final ph you end up with. Most likely, this will be anywhere between 3 and 15 drops..... you will need to experiment and test with ph strips or a digital pH tester to determine your personal norm. Place this in syringe and insert in vj and prop hips (or jump and dump). 30 minutes later if your pH is 5 or higher insert 1-3ml of douche. Keep checking your pH every half hour for up to 4 hours, lowering if the pH is 5 or higher. Once at 4 hours add lime douche tampon to keep pH down for the next 8 hours.

Swim Up

This method is for ttc a dd. The principle of this method is Y sperm thrives in the perfect pH (9-9.9.) So if we provided that pH it will incourage the Y sperm over the X sperm to swim upwards. The slowest are the majority of X-bearing sperm. Semen is placed in the bottom of a test tube and the sperm swim upwards through an egg white substance, to the top of the tube. The fasest sperm are selected and discarded. Then the remaining bottom sperm (in theory majority X-bearing sperm) are used for TBM.

For this method you will need:-->-->

Test tube
Incubator (approx 99F/37C) -->-->
Microscope (best magnification between 100x - 300x) -->-->
1 Pasteurized REAL chicken egg (use WHITES only) -->-->

6 x medicine droppers (or 2, but wash very well in-between use)-->-->

Egg White Mix Recipe for only if your egg whites are a pH of 10+:

First check real EW pH. If it is less than 10 then you don’t need to do this. ….Using a fork gently mix: WHITE ONLY from 1 PASTEURIZED CHICKEN EGG preseed. pH of this mixture should be 9. Don't add preseed too fast or the pH will drop to low. Add a little, check pH then add a little more.-->-->

Step 1: Dh to DTD in a cup or condom.

Step 2: Place semen in bottom of test tube - note the measurement.

Step 3: Gently place an equal amount of egg white mixture on top of semen in test tube (ie, 2mls of egg white solution, if 2mls of semen). Make sure to place it in the middle of the test tube. Do not touch semen with tip. Egg white should remain floating on top of semen.-->-->

Step 4: Place test tube in incubator at a 45 degree angle (temp in incubator should be approx 99F/37C, you may have to put a light towel around base it to reach this temp but do NOT go over 100F/37.77C as this will slow the sperm down). *Take note of time, or set a timer for 1 hour.

Step 5: Douche a small amount lime & water (usual recipe is 1 tbsp of each) or 7% vinegar douche, using a medicine dropper or douche bottle.

Step 6: After 1 hour, use a medicine dropper to suck up any sperm at the top of the tube, aswell as ALL of the egg white mix. These portions in theory contains a small amount of very fast X-bearing sperm, as well as majority of Y-bearing sperm. You may want to check with a microscope that these are the fast and strait swimmers. Discard these portions.

Step 7: Using a different medicine dropper, suck up the remaining contents of the test tube and transfer to a clean cup. This should be ONLY semen (no egg white mix). This portion is to be kept and used for TBM.

Step 8: You may want to now double check that the last portion is mostly x-sperm. Put one drop on the slide of your scope (make sure you have a slide cover on top of the sample and look at it under the icroscope.) You should only have semen remaining. They should be the circle moving sperm. Make sure you don't mix these up with the portion above!

Step 9: Add lime juice one drop at a time to the semen in the cup to create a pH of 4.5 - 5.5. Gently 'swish' to combine the two liquids.

Step 10: Using a different medicine dropper, insert the splime whilst lying down with hips tipped slightly or add splime (semen/lime) to a diva cup and insert into vj)

Gradient Density Centrifuge

This method is for ttc a dd. The principle of this method is that the X-bearing sperm are heavier than the Y-bearing sperm, due to more DNA. Using the G force of the centrifuge, a higher ratio of the X-bearing sperm will sediment in the bottom of the test tube, after being through each layer of the 3 step Gradient Density (sucrose solution). You never do this alone as it only sways by about 5-7%. You need to do swim up after this!

For this method you will need:

Centrifuge
Test tube with stopper/lid (2 required if you have a centrifuge that needs balancing - ie, more than one position for the tube)
Bottled distilled water
Caster sugar, or a fine grade of sugar
Cup or non-latex non-spermicide condom for dh's sample
3 x medicine droppers
1 needless syringe OR douche bottle (for douching)
Bottled lime juice
pH strips
Microscope (best magnification between 100x - 300x)
Insert Replens or Rephresh (finger tip amount) every 3 days

Sucrose Recipes:

50% solution = 3 tablespoons & 1 teaspoon of SUGAR + 3 tablespoons & 1 teaspoon of DISTILLED WATER.

45% solution = 3 tablespoons of SUGAR + 3 tablespoons & 2 teaspoons of DISTILLED WATER.

40% solution = 2 tablespoons & 2 teaspoons of SUGAR + 4 tablespoons of DISTILLED WATER.

** Dissolve each solution in a cup, which is held in a bowl of hot water. You may need to stir each solution until it is completely dissolved. The solutions should be CLEAR when completed.

The Method:

Step 1: Dh to DTD in a cup or condom.

Step 2: Layer the test tube with sucrose solutions. *These solutions should be warmed to body temperature.* First put the 50% solution on the bottom (0.25mls), then gently place the 45% solution on top of this (0.25mls), and then the 40% solution as the top layer (0.25mls). You should see a fine line between each layer.

Step 3: Put the cup or condom of semen in a basin of warm water. Wait for the semen to liquify.

Step 4: Place the liquefied semen on top of the sucrose solutions in the test tube.

Step 5: Centrifuge for 20 - 30 minutes, until there is sperm sediment in the bottom of the test tube. You will see the sperm seeping it's way down each layer like "little ray's of sunshine" (if you check every 5 - 10 minutes). Do not stop centrifuge suddenly as this will kill all sperm. Rather let it gradually slow down.

Step 6: Using a medicine dropper, remove the top semen aswell as 1 or 2 layers of the sucrose solution (leaving only the 50% solution with sperm sediment for Swim up only the bottom layer, OR 45% & 50% solutions with sperm left if you choose to swim up the bottom 2 layers). **Please note that using the bottom 2 layers will give you more sperm but also a slightly less concentration of X sperm. Discard these top layer/s. Optional: You may wish to check a droplet of this discarded layer/s under the microscope. They will appear very strait swimmers.

Step 7: Do swim up (see method above) *If your egg whites sink please click here

Step 8: Do TBM (see method abvoe)

***** For those who cannot get their EW to float. ****

You can use Packaged Egg Whites such as Egg Beaters if you cannot find an egg with a high enough pH. In fact, Egg Beaters usually have 9+ pH and are much thinner than regular egg whites therefore the separation between the EW and Semen is perfect.

Please refer to SU for your preparation as everything is the same up to the Method.

Step 1: Dh to DTD in a cup or condom.

Step 2: Place EW in the bottom of the Test Tube. You will know the amount of EW to use depending on the amount of semen that you have, the ratio is usually 1:1 or a bit less. Eg. If you have 3 ML of semen use about 2 ML of EW

STEP 3: While tilting the Test Tube at a slight angle carefully place the semen on top of the EW, the key is to do it very slowly. You should see a line where the two meet. As shown below.

Step 5: Douche a small amount lime & water (usual recipe is 1 tbsp of each) or 7% vinegar douche, using a medicine dropper or douche bottle.

Step 6: After 1 hour, use a medicine dropper to suck up semen at the top of the test tube, be sure to leave a bit above the line where the two meet as this is where the Y’s tend to hang out. Place this in the diva cup. You may want to check with a microscope that these are the slow swimmers.

Step 7: Add lime juice one drop at a time to the semen in the cup to create a pH of 4.5 - 5.5. Gently 'swish' to combine the two liquids.

Step 8: Using a different medicine dropper, insert the splime whilst lying down with hips tipped slightly or add splime (semen/lime) to a diva cup and insert into vj)

You make want to check the remainder of the contents of the test tube for the fast sperm.
