Just think of it this way, some siblings look so much alike they could be twins (if close in age) but others you would never guess they were related--dark hair vs blond hair or blue eyes vs brown eyes. I think as babies/toddlers/preschoolers it is mostly genetics. Then weight probably depends more on nutrition (but still a lot on genetics).

Don't worry about it unless there are other medical symptoms.

Re: Baby size

My sons were actually on different ends of the spectrum. DS#1 was even from birth in the 95%. DS#2 was below and still is a bit. they usually did both pork up right before a growth spurt and then thinned out. DS#1 has a six pack better then most men I have seen. DS#2 has a bit of a belly at the moment, but we are expecting him to lose that here in a month or so. Hopes this helps

Re: Baby size

I was. like you, worried about DS#2 because I was/am always comparing him the DS#1 who id OFF THE CHARTS when it comes to height and weight.

DS#1 will be 3 in two weeks and he is and has always been at or above the 97th percentile for height and weight. He currently weighs 39/40 pounds and is wearing a 5T pants for length becasue he is so tall, but I can only buy adjustable waist because they are too big there.

Then there is DS#2. He is my lil peanut compared to DS#1. He was pretty normal on everything when he was a baby. When he was about 8 months old, he stopped gaining any weight and just started getting taller. We were at the Dr. Monday for a well baby check up and he has only gained about a pound in 9 months! He is now in the 90th percentile for his height and 25th for weight .

The Dr. assures me he is fine, as is DS#1. She also seems to think that both my boys will end up being really tall, both over 6 foot, which doesn't really surprise me. DH is about that tall and my mom's brothers and my g-pa are all that tall or taller. As far as weight, they just have different body types. I think, for me, since my first DS was my first period, I can't help but compare the boys and the fact that they are less than a year and a half apart doesn't help. On the flip side, when I did have only one baby, everyone would tell me how big he was for his age and that woud worry me too, so I guess no mater what, as mothers, we will always find something or someone to worry about !

Re: Baby size

DS1 was always bigger as a baby than his two brothers-the funny thing is that they all three weighed almost the same at birth. People would always tell me with DS1 that I must be feeding him too much. That used to make me so mad. They would suggest I put him on a diet. He really wasn't that big-just bigger than the other two and he is very skinny and athletic now. I remember thinking how am I supposed to do that let him cry because he's hungry and listen to it just because someone thinks he shouldn't be as big as he was. As long as your pediatrician tells you everything is fine don't worry.

Re: Baby size

DS1 was always on the big side, still is. The other two, they were always above 50% until about 2 yrs, then they started growing taller but not fatter. DS3 is 3 this weekend and just barely weighs 30 lbs. I had to get him to that cause WIC made me feel bad he's so small. DS2 and DS3 are the same though. DS2 is 6 and in 1st grade and weighs shy of 50 lbs, while DS1 weighed 64 going into kindergarten.

Re: Baby size

DS1- skinny and long- 10th-25th for weight/ 50th for height (he's still a tall, skinny boy)

DS3- oh my god, he's so tiny- 3rd for weight, 5th for height. I think he's allergic to dairy and eggs but I also wonder about some sort of metabolic problem. I'm only 5'2" and DH is 5'8" so we're no amazons, but still he's soooo little...

Baby size

Were your boys all the same or similar sizes as babies? I'm not talking newborn, I'm talking like older babies, when some start packin' on the pork, like fifth month or so on. DS1 was always 25% for height, but 75% weight; he always looked like a precious little fatty fatster, so cute and hefty. But DS2 is the opposite, 75% height 25% weight, and his last visit last month he was like 66% height 10% weight!!! He doesn't look skinny, just not fat at all. Everyone says it's normal for kids to be different, but I'm worried because he had those green poops and suspected dairy sensitivity early on, which has gone away (I'm eating dairy again and his poops are fine); but what if it was really some weird metabolic thing or something? DH and I both were fat fat babies, too, hence the extra worry.

The reason I put this specifically in The Boy Zone is I want to know only about baby boys. My MIL had BBG and she said both her sons were squat fat babies but her girl was a skinny long baby (SIL's still super skinny), so I'm thinking there might be gender differences within families. But are same-sex siblings usually same-size as babies?
