I know she's only 6 weeks old, and it's been awhile since i've had a newborn, but I think she sleeps alot... I mean she's awake alot more than she used to be... she'll wake up around 9 and then stay up til about 11 or 12 then sleep til about 2 and stay up for about an hour and then we both take a nap at like 4 til 5, but then after that she's usually up for a good while with cat naps in between until about 10 or 11. The schedule i'm posting is pretty accurate but varies from an hour or so some days. How much sleep is alot of sleep? My mom says just let her sleep when she wants to cuz she is still small... I just don't remember the other 2 sleeping so much.

Adalyn has slept really well the past two nights!!

She has had a 5 hour stretch each night and then two 2.5 to 3 hour stretches after that!!!

She had a cathiter (spelling?) inserted in her nose at birth since they weren't sure her nasal passages were big enough. Turns out they were. My pedi said as long as she is eating fine from the bottle, there's no problem. However, she's getting worse, it sounds. I mean, it sounds like she's SNORING all the time. Should I ask for a second opinion? Anyone have any experiences with this? It sounds like she cannot breathe half the time (and it's really loud).

FEET

Are all babies OBSESSED with their feet?

Xander always plays with his feet.. any time he has a toy, first thing he does is put it on his feet. When he's nursing, he likes to MAKE me hold his feet.. seriously, grabs my hand with both of his and pushes it onto his feet. If I don't grab his feet while he's nursing he smacks me, or he freaks out and cries. Obviously, we're going through a TON of milk, but if she's supossed to have it, then I don't care. Just didn't know how much she should be drinking right now? She gets one in the morning, one after lunch in the afternoon, and another before teethbrushing and bedtime. She also gets another bottle of juice or something between her morning and afternoon milk bottle, and sometimes another between her afternoon and night bottle.

So something like:
6am: Milk
8am: Breakfast
10-11am: Another bottle
11am: Naptime until 1pm
2pm: Milk
4-5pm: Sometimes another botte of something
5:30-6pm: Supper
6:30pm: Milk
7pm: Bedtime

I really want to start giving her more water too...she'll drink it out of my water bottles...actually she fights with me unless I give her my water bottle and then she thinks she can drink it by herself and it ends up all over her cloths and my floor... but when it comes to a sippy she doesn't care for it. So I'm going to start offering her water all day to see if she'll catch onto it. I like to keep her hydrated and she's usually really wanted the bottles by the time she usually gets them. The 4-5pm extra bottle is always her choice, if she asks for it I give it to her.

I also want to teach her out to drink out of a regular CUP....lol. She has a problem with keeping her drinks right side up though. So if I give her something with a hole opening (like a juicie thingy) she always gets distracted and will let it lean over or she'll tip it upside down playing with it or something. I've been working with telling her "keep it up" or to set it down on a table when she's done... but when it comes to cups and stuff, she spills it too fast into her mouth and then it just goes running out all over her. She pretty much dumps it on her head. I'm thinking of putting her in the sink or bathtub with a cup and trying a few times every day to see if she catches it...

If your baby had colic *poll*

How long did it last?
[Poll]

In Desperate Need of Help w/ Sleep problems

[:'(] I'm in tears right now as I type. I feel so defeated, frustrated, irritated, and tired. Adalyn's sleep issues went from bad to worse. over the past few days she will go to sleep for about 2 to 3 hours and then be up every hour after that sometimes multiple times an hour. She wants to suck on something I guess. We are quitting the paci cold turkey today and I'm scared to death about that.

Also when she eats she's only eating maybe an ounce each time and it takes her about 30 minutes or so to eat ONE ounce. She falls asleep almost as soon as I put the bottle in her mouth. I have to keep tapping and shaking the bottle and sometimes it's just impossible.

Anyways, Adalyn is now 6 weeks old and I'm pretty sure that most babies have some kind of decent sleep routine down at this age. Even if it's only 3 hour stretches.

Please give me insight on what I should do. I am lost.

Shampoo and conditioner..

At what age or hair length should a child be switched over from the "head to toe baby wash" into using real shampoo/conditioner? My DD's hair is thin, but it's quite long, the back reaches below her shoulders, the front is shorter but it still almost reaches her eyes. I've been using the Johnson's head to toe baby wash on her hair and body since she was born and I'm not sure if I should be using real shampoo or conditioner by now with her hair this long.

Also, what suggestions do you have on the best hair product for kids? Monster is wonderful with showers AND baths so washing her hair isn't a problem since she lets me run water down her head/face without a flinch (thankfully, knock on wood it doesn't change..) but I do think I should stick to "no tears" because although she might not scream at the pain of it running into her eyes, I don't want to see her with bloodshot eyes...

Thanks in advance, here's a picture of her length.

Signs that indicate baby is developmentally ready for solids include:

Baby can sit up well without support.

Baby has lost the tongue-thrust reflex and does not automatically push solids out of his mouth with his tongue.

Baby is ready and willing to chew.

Baby is developing a “pincer” grasp, where he picks up food or other objects between thumb and forefinger. Using the fingers and scraping the food into the palm of the hand (palmar grasp) does not substitute for pincer grasp development.

Baby is eager to participate in mealtime and may try to grab food and put it in his mouth.

Tell me your stories :)
[Poll]

what age did you add cereal to bottle?

my son is 4 weeks old and I'm ready to start adding cereal to his bottles! He spits up a lot and doesn't sleep great at night. Adalyn wakes up every hour and a half to two hours and when she is sleeping it's not very peaceful, she'll cry for a minute or two here and there and then sometimes I have to get up and rock her or put her pacifier in her mouth. She is also usually wide awake after her 4:00 AM feeding. I have been so patient with this just thinking it will go away tonight, or the next night......it's not going away or getting better and I NEED sleep. I make sure to keep her up a good amount throughout the day but she also naps here and there for 45 minutes to an hour and a half at a time.

What can I do?

UPDATE:

Adalyn is doing so much better, she has been sleeping one 5 hour stretch from about 9:30 until 2:30 going back to bed at 3, waking up at 5:00 and I put her passy in her mouth, she goes back to sleep until about 6:30 and I feed her again and she sleeps anywhere from 8:30 to 9:00. I think it has everything to do with me not giving her my breast milk anymore. I have just been giving her formula the past 2.5 days/nights. I wasn't on a good diet while pumping and I think it was upsetting her stomach. She is also much more content now. She doesn't cry everytime I put her down!

Baby cold meds

Yes yes yes, I know all cold meds for kids under 2 have been recalled and it is very dangerous. But I was talking in a mom's group and heard that people are giving there babies meds anyway. They are using Child meds (very small amount) and giving it to them. So I thought I would make a poll.

[Poll]

**Just a side note; I think Tylenol is 100000% more dangerous than any cold meds. Adults die from this every month!
