EW temp?! still floats if warmed?

do you leave it at room temp like an egg on the counter all day, or are you warming it up.  If you're warming it up is it to 99 and have you been able to get it to float this way? Will be trying skim milk powder tonight.  I had a thought of sprinkling a little on top and not mixing it in to create a small barrier to help the EW float..

I've left it out on the counter to get it to room temp, but then put it in warm water to get it warmer.  I usually don't test how warm it is, but I have before.  I just try to get it to be a temp that I can't feel, like I don't think it feels warm or cold.  Does that make sense?  But, I haven't been able to get it to float since warming it up.  Haven't tried the SMP.  I don't like the idea of adding things.  It scares me.

I had my first succes with floating today. I warmed it in the incubator for an hour. Then I used a smaller testtube and a very small and thin 1 ml syringe. That helped :-)

the only problem I had was, that after 1 hour there was not a sperm layer on top ? In the mikroscope there was stille live sperm, so I dont understand ??

Lucky to get it to float!  So I didn't think there was supposed to be a sperm layer on top, I think it's mixed in to the EW, and it's live sperm but mostly Y's.  It think you probably had a good sort.  I will try this tomorrow for sure.

Do you add the EW down the side or hold it right over the semen and slowly add it to the middle?

I hold it right over the semen BUT did not touch it at all. Then I put it on very slowly and made sure nothing touch the sides. I used a 1 ml thin syringe, so I had to do it 3 times, because we had 2 ½ ml semen. I also used a thin testtube.

I failed today. Yesterday I used SW but not today. So i quess I need both the thin testtube and sw.

I am pretty sure that there has to be 3 layers. The y swimmers on top, then ew and then x swimmers......

Yesterday when the ew floats, it was like there whas a tornado inside the ew *LOL* Do you know what I mean ?

I know exactly what you mean----that is what my sorts look like and I am not sure if that is a great sort or not?

I too had trouble seeing sperm in the top layer but they were there in the  middle and bottom after an hour in the incubator---not quite sure why they didn't make it all the way to the top-----that is where we are supposed to get all the fast Y swimmers and I feel like I am not getting the bulk of them----kwim?

I may just use the tiniest bit of the bottom layer (b/c I do think I see the x swimmer sthere---not sure if I am just wishing them there though ) if I feel like I am not getting a great sort---for that I only need to add about 1 drop of pure lime and it drops to 5---b/c it is so little when I add 2 drops it sometimes drops to below 4.5 and then it would be a waste.

I have not tried the SW yet, but plan to as maybe it will help the sort better but I am afraid of burning out the sperm----it is so hard to know what to do!!! I keep going back to that hole in a condom but really think SU is the way to go if I can get it to work!

So, tried both SMP and SW and it didn't work...I mixed the SW into the sperm with a little rod, would it be better to just swish it a little and let it be?

Getting a little discouraged I have to say, starting to think SD might be in my future, but I'm a little scared of it.

I think I have read that you should just swish the SW instead of mixing it, but I can't imagine it would make such a difference. I am going to try that next...Good luck!

Thanks.  I think I'm going to do SD.  On another PM a couple women were able to get really good sorts this way.  Tamara said a better sort is with SU because the Y sperm have to work harder to go up, but that you can do SD- the Y still swim toward the desired pH.  In my case I'd have to add more than the recommended amount of SW to get it to work and I guess the plus of SD is I won't have to add anything.  So, there ya have it.  Funny how my path keeps changing a little.   Good luck to you too!!!!

I have just posted pictures of my ew floating in the eksperiment pictures section. I put ony half amount of sw in and swish it gently, and it works :-)

its way more complated than work hard.. that is very simplifed.  I dont have time to explain, did you read that study in my blog for this?
