I had my 38 week check up yesterday. They did an ultra sound to approximate how big baby girl is.  Well, they said she is in "big baby territory" probably around 9 pounds.  I have 2 weeks to go (due date not until May 15th).  I'm barely dialated 1 cm. They wanted to know if I wanted to schedule a c-section for next week or wait to go into labor on my own to try and get Baby out vaginally.  The reason being about a scheduled C-section is because my son was not face down, he was face sideways and they couldn't turn him to get him to come out.  Soooo after a long labor and pushing for 2 1/2 hours I had to have a c-section.  I really don't want a scheduled C.  The recovery is so difficult and I have a 1 1/2 year old at home I need to get back on my feet for.  I haev family who will help, but still knowing I'm going in to get my stomach cut open is so unsettling.  I really wish I'd go into labor on my own so I could push this baby out.  Reality is, this baby might not come out like my son didn't so I'd have to have an c-sections anyways.  Any advice regarding my situation?  Has anyone been in the similar situation and got their second baby out vaginally.  It doesn't help that I make such big baby's too.  My son was 8 1/2 pounds a week early (they induced me since he was getting so big).  What to do, what to do!!!! I have to call today to schedule my C for next week if we decide to go that route.

I personally would NOT schedule a section for that. U/S measurements can be off by quite a bit...more than a pound. I delivered a 10 lb. 3 oz. baby vaginally, so it can be done. It is very rare that a woman cannot birth a baby due to size. I would wait at least a week before making a decsion, to see if you go into labor on your own. GL

O.k. thank you so much for that advice.  I really, REALLY don't want a c-section and fantasize about going into labor and the story I can share one day with my daughter and seeing that baby come out and getting to hold her immediately.  I want to try so I will wait.  My gut was saying wait as well.  I think C-sections are so common now and people are so quick to get them, or Dr.'s are so quick to recommend them.  My mom said that back in her day everyone just waited until Babe was ready to make it's arrival.

I think I can birth a big baby.  My mom did all hers an so did my sister.  They were all good size babies.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Sher

I agree.  I would wait as u/s are often inaccurate for determining the size of baby.

GL to you!

This is just my opinion and my experiance, see if you can schedual an induction for next week instead of a C-section.  I feel the Docs are too happy to jump to C-sections when I feel being induced should always be the first option in this situation.  Both my boys were induced, one 3 days past due date, one 8 days before due date all because they felt they would get too big.   Just because your son was facing sideways doesn't mean your daughter would be doing that too.  And you also have to remember that there is a 1lb difference both ways in the estimated weight of your child.  They said DS2 could already be 9lbs also, but when he was born he was only 8lbs 2oz.  Do you feel like you should have another c-section?  If not, go for your v-bac.

mbibik-I would totally get induced before a c-section, but they said that is not an option since I had a c-section.  They said the medication they use to induce is not good when you have a previous scar from a c-section.  It could soften the scar tissue and cause the uterus to rupture.  Yikes!

Sorry Sher, didn't realize that.  Well since you can't do an induction, then I agree witheveryone else and wait to go into labor.  Good luck, and I pray you get your v-bac, all safe and sound.

Hi Sher.

I had the same thing happen to me with my daughter. She was sunny side up and I had to push for almost 3 hours just to get her out. Awful experience and all without an epidural (ouch!!!). Then my son decided to turn breech about 2 weeks before I was due. They tried to turn him but he wouldn't cooperate so I had a c-section. My OB, whom I absolutely loved, told me the reason my daughter was sunny side up and my son turned to the breech position was because my pelvis was too small for them to come out the normal way. She also said my daughter should have probably been a c-section as well. You might want to ask your OB about this before you make your decision. I would hate to see you try to go into labor on your own to only be disappointed that it isn't possible for you to deliver vaginally. Good Luck to you and let us know how it goes.

Hi Sher, well I say follow your heart and it sounds like your heart says you want a VBAC. I am due on May 15th and was having the same dilemma as you, I had my twins by c-section and this time my baby is transverse so it looks like it is going to be a c-section again.  My twins are 22 months old and I worry about not being able to pick them up afterwards etc etc, so I am trying to get them used to climbing into their highchairs, cribs etc so I don't have to pick them up so much and then getting them to cuddle me on the sofa.

I have heard too that you shouldn't be induced when you have had a c-section before as it can increase the likelihood of rupture.

My doctor told me that I was twice as likely to rupture as another person doing a vbac as I had twins and am having them close together, he said it is only a 2% - 4% chance for me, but it all depends on how you see risk and I feel like that is too high for me considering what can happen.

I am going to go for a trial of labor I go into labor before May 11th but only if it feels right and if not then I am going to go ahead with the c-section on May 11th.

I wouldn't worry too much about the size on the U/S as they are very often out with that, they were 1lb out with each of my twins.  I also witnessed my twin sister give birth to a 9lbs 13oz baby and a 9lbs 9oz baby and she is tiny.  She was just fine.  So, I think you should follow your heart and do what feels right for you.
