So I read online about this anti-nausea medicine, Emetrol, safe for pregnancy so I sent DH to the store to get some. I have been feeling so crappy the last couple days. So he gets home and I read the ingredience,: Frucose, Glucose, and phosphoric acid. WTH. So I tell DH that there is no "medicine" in it and he said, yea, that's what the pharmicist said but not to tell you, LOL.

Nonetheless, I take 2tbsp this morning (thinking that it's just going to be a placebo) and it worked. My stomach feels way better and I don't feel all nasty, like puking. It takes like a more sugary version of the glucose testing drink.  But it goes down, and I could totally feel it coat my stomach. So, even without any "REAL MEDICINE" in it, it totally helped!

Anyone else use this stuff?

I used it a lot of nausea as a child and it worked great!  I don't think I've ever used it as an adult though.

Yeah, I give it to my kids when they have a tummy bug.  It's because of the high sugar content that it works.  You can get the same from coke syrup or drinking coke.  Same principle.

Glad it worked for you!

Hmm... maybe coke would be cheaper? If I leave it out on the counter to go flat? The bubbles make my stomach worse... and I'm going through a half bottle of Emetrol a day.. YIKES!!

Yeah, stir out the bubbles.  I just take a spoon and stir forever and then tell my kids to take tablespoons of it when their tummys act up.  It works great.  They actually make something called coke syrup too.  It is the same basic idea though except coke in a 2 liter is cheaper...LOL

I can't take it since I'm hypoglycemic! My doc actually said not to before reading my chart (he's a new doc for me) but then again I was borderline hospital bound last night so I had to start taking Zofran!!

Almost3..Really? Hypoglycemic means low sugar... like I have hypoglycemic reations when my blood sugar is really low. I get dizzy and lathargic.  I have to eat something immediately. If you were HYPERglycemic... I would understand.  Wierd! Confused Huh?

What did your doc say? I'm not seeing mine til Tuesday but I went ahead and took it anyway (obviously) because I was so desperate to feel better, trying to chase around 2 boys! LOL.  I might be getting the same advice as you on Tuesday.

That stuff works great for me, but not for pregnancy-related nausea.  Weird???

How much does everyone take? I take 2 tbspns,  and then again an hour later if I'm still not feeling well.

I think I better pass up the glucose testing, if I'm still on Emetrol when it's time. I'll for SURE fail, LOL.

Glad you found something that works!! If you need to go on a script, I take Phenergan and it is a miracle drug for me....its pretty cheap too if you get the generic!

I have never tried Emetrol.  However, I have hyperemesis (now that it is under control, it's just basically nausea and not the vomiting part) and I have a script for zofran during the daytime and I take unisom (the tablet, NOT the gel, and yes this is the over the counter stuff to help ppl sleep, it is safe for pregnancy) at night.  The unisom DOES make me drowsy (which is actually a nice side effect if you need to sleep), but it works well for my nausea.  The zofran basically keeps me from vomiting as much, doesn't help as much with the nausea though AND the constipation side effect is bad.  Phenergan is another drug that I tried with a previous pregnancy, it made me a little bit sleepy, but did not have the constipation side effect.  Too bad, it stopped working after a while, but some ppl really find it effective.

Unisom actually has the exact same ingredient in it as Benadryl...never worked for me, whether for sleep OR for nausea, prob because I used to take benadryl for sleeping. But if you are planning to take Unisom I highly recommend buying a bottle of Benadryl instead....much ccheaper...

not sure why but he said no! I'll ask on Friday! My darling old pharmasist told me all about bendectin 20 years ago being the only approved MS medication- it's the same as unisom and B6! That's all it was. I can't take unisom due to nursing but my MS is bad so I went on Zofran
