I think Sawyer is such a cute name! Are you going to go by the nickname or Sawyer? I'd call him Sawyer Love Ya! I think its adorable

I am using Sawyer!  I LOVE that name and I fought for it from the moment that we decided to go for #4!  Its my grandparents that do not care for the name, but they will just use Skip as an affectionate little nickname--it acutally started as a joke, and it just stuck with them!

I don't care for nicknames.  I know they are cute and stuff but I feel if you're going to call your baby "Jackie" then just name her that and skip the Jaclyn.  What's the point?  I pick out names that can't be shortened on purpose.  But I do know most people like the nickname thing.

So I didn't do so for my boys, but I have two girls names picked out and both are based on a nickname that is cute for a little girl and a full name that doesn't sound too girly.  Does that make sense? Best non-actual example I can think of is Ally and Allyson.

I don't want to post themy two here because I'm superstitious and paranoid, but I will once I'm good and satisfied that they're going to stick! :)

I think, in general, nicnames will happen in life. For example, to the OP, once in my pre-school teaching days not too long ago, I had two Ava's. I called one Ava, and the other Avie, because the mom called her Avie Babie (cute!) I also have heard Avers with the name Ava or Ave.

But since it's only 2 syllables, you'll mostly hear Ava I reckon.

We use "nicknames" - LOL - but they are generally much longer than their real names, and (many times) don't include any part of their names.  It's just our terms of endearment for our kiddos!

Caleb has gone by Ca-Bug, Bug-a-Boo, Bug, Buggy, and Connor has always called him Boo-Boo.

Connor started out Con-Man, but also gets called Con-Bon, Connor-my-Bonnor, Bon-Bon, and (here lately) Stink Pot!  Happy LOL

They both have so many "nicknames" it's not even funny - but it is because they know exactly who we're talking about!

*I just noticed how my C kids end up with B-ish nicknames!*

I'm surprised my kids actually know their correct christian names.  I have so many different names for them!

We named DS Cassius and call him both Cassius and Cash.  We tend to call him Cassius more often than not while other people prefer calling him Cash.  I just wanted control over WHAT the nickname was going to be - my mom has this annoying tendancy to add an "eee" sound to everyone's name and I have always HATED it.  Cashy just sounds stupid to me and some people will still try it, quickly realize how lame it sounds, and just call him Cash (my subterfuge worked!).  When he was a baby and hadn't quite grown into his name yet, I called him Cash-Cash.

DS1 is Samuel but we call him Sam- I know he knows his real name is Samuel (he's 7) but I know he doesn't know how to spell it. DS3 is Charles but we call him Charlie. Both instances we loved the nicknames but weren't crazy about the actual names. But, as adults, it will be good for them to be able to call themselves by either name.

I've never named my kids around a nickname, but they all have pretty short names.

We occasionally call my oldest son "Ty" (name is Tyler), no nicknames for my younger son, Noah (though he gets called Noey, Nophus, and Noah Balboa by his siblings).

My daughter's case is odd altogether.  Her name is Grace, so you'd THINK I'd call her "Gracie," but I actually call her "Lulu" 90% of the time.  It just fits her. Hearts
