With all the meds and all the steps, most people in my area (NYC) are telling me it's about $20,000 per cycle.  Most of it is not covered, correct?  How does anyone pay for this?

I've wondered that myself! I have NO clue how these ladies do it... Do they have payment programs? Can you get a loan and tell the bank you want a car but go get a baby instead? LOL

This is so hard. We are trying to save for this. I think trying to find a place like in VA that offers multiple cycles is the best option for me. Cooper Institute in NJ is under 10,000 for everything per cycle. They are low cost. I wish I could do it now. I'm really wanting my girl. Sad

I use to wonder this too until I saw a poll for those that have or were going high tech to see what their yearly income is. WELL…that REALLY put it into perspective for me!! I had to pick my jaw up off the floor!! My DH and I are not rich but I wish we were. We have been saving for a LONG time now & have enough for one shot in the USA with a bit left over.

Check out these pollsSurprise

yes, that would explain it. When people posted pics of their nurseries in the high tech section (after getting their bfp's) I realized how much more financially stable they are. We are not rich but we make do. I think for most people $20k is a lot of money. I mean, think about getting a car -  most people would get used cars or have to make monthly car payments rather than have the money up front ya know? Doesn't mean they're too poor to have a family. High tech gender selection is no doubt an extra for those who can afford

for pgd as well? I would totally go ahead with it if I knew for sure we could be get pg on the first cycle. It scared me reading all the people on the high tech board say they spent thousands with nothing to show :( I remember one woman said they were up to 60k!

We had saved half and then we got the other half via our tax return this year.  If this IVF cycle doesn't work then I will probably have to wait another year to do it again.  This cycle was around $11,500 which included meds but no PGD or MS.  You can get your meds overseas which is what I did and saved thousands of dollars.  I think it all seems overwhelming until I actually looked at the cost of every little thing and had a hard number to look at.  I just hope this one works for me!!  LOL!

Oh and we are definitely not rich.

We were living in GA at the time. I happened to find a wonderful doc and clinic. We financed half with Capital One as a medical loan which was about $5k. Our clinic financed the rest with us which was about $5,500. ICSI was included. We suffered from MFI so it was a must for us. I found that it was much cheaper than going to a big place in ATL and was amazed at how much we saved. We paid for the meds with a credit card but thankfully and luckily I had an friend who was going through the same clinic and no longer needed her good meds she had paid hardly nothing for due to her ins. coverage and I got the most of my meds for free. Wish everyone could fall into a lucky situation like that. Hope you guys find a great solution and get your chance soon!
