Bit by the heart rate bug AGAIN
|
|
Hi Gals,
Had the dr. today and they did an internal. I am 70% effaced and 1 cm. Said he will induce by 39 weeks, (last week of march) if I don't go because baby is so big. So feeling good about everthing since I have been so uncomfortable and the end is near......and THEN out of the blue Doc says to me, "and it looks like a girl to me with this heart rate" I said, i thought that was an OWT and he said, "I have been doing this for years almost as a rule, boys are between 120 and 140 and girls are 140-160 and you have been in the mid 150s this whole pregnancy. (and of course my boys were both low to boot) WHY DID HE HAVE TO SAY THIS????????? I had completely resigned that it was our third boy and things will be great and predictable and I kind of got over the whole girl thing and NOW I HAVE THIS GOOFY IDEA THAT IT'S OUR GIRL.....and ladies I KNOW about the studies and the research and I KNOW it is just an OWT so why is this stupid conversation giving me such hope??? Because I am a die-hard optimist I guess.....anyways go ahead and knock me out of this dream because I know most of you out there probably had the opposite and maybe those who are due in April like me and actually KNOW what they are having can tell me how wrong this is. I need to prepare for the boucing bundle of blue it's just what has worked best for me all along!!
THanks ahead for any responses,
PP

Not due in April, but I had to chime in...I'm sorry you had this thrown at you hon! It might be your dr's experience that this is a "rule", but I think he's irresponsible if he is predicting gender based on it! Babies hr's vary depending on whether they're awake or asleep, and activity level. That said, It is perfectly possible that you are having your girl, I really hope you are! GL
6/3/00 3/21/02 2/6/04 6/1/06 5/5/09 born unassisted at home, in water Hoping to get pregnant with #6 this year...boy or girl, doesn't matter. I just want another baby! "If left alone in labor, the body of a woman produces most easily the baby that is not interfered with...If left alone, just courage and patience are required" -Grantly Dick-Read, MD "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs" -Thomas Jefferson

With my first ds, which we didn't find out the gender, my ob at about 35 weeks said to me after using the doppler, "If i had to guess, this is a girl." Boy, did I have my hopes pinned. Anyway, for her to say that after being in practice for 25 years and being wrong, did I ever think it was an OWT.

I wish they wouldn't say things like that. I just don't like having somebody set up for possible disappointment on their hopes. Even though I think this is an old wives tale, I still think there is still hope. Good luck!

Thank you so much ladies you definately brought be back down to earth- in a kind and supportive way!! Sorry if my message was confusing, no we did not find out what the baby is, but my placenta is on the right and so it was easier to assume it was a boy. Anyways I am excited that this one will be a complete surprise and only a couple of weeks to go. I know my doc was just trying to be fun because I don't let on in the real world how much my husband and would be thrilled to have a girl. At this point I just really need some closure. If it is a boy I want to meet him, love him, and move on down the road with my three guys, and if it's a girl, what a surprise it would be!!!!
Healthy babies to you all!!

So you wanted the gender to be a surprise and your doctor made a comment like that?? I'd be upset. Does the doc already know the gender but you don't?

I don't think that they know the gender, but not sure. This was the first time I had seen this doctor (five in the practice) he was very nice but he better be the one who delivers now because he got my hopes up and they are going to need a lot more than an epidural to hold me down if he's wrong (I'm just kidding!) Seriously this whole thing may be a good thing because I was 90/10 thinking it was a boy and now I am back to 50/50 so it really will be a true surprise....I can't lie to you ladies I'd like to have a DD so much that if it were true and someone in the practice DID tell me (and unfort. that is not the case) I wouldn't be too upset about missing the surprise you know what I mean? Being surprised for me was more of a saftety net if it were a boy so that A. I am holding my wonderful baby when I find out it's a hat trick and B. because I got to skip all the rude things people WOULD have said to me while I was pregnant like sympathy over the gender of my baby. Anyways the latest I can go is two weeks from tomorrow and they will induce so I am in the HOME STRETCH!!! I am so glad I found this site because when this is over I know my cyber pals will be there to celebrate and/or support. Thank you all!!

Since you don't know the gender and I don't want to be rude like the doctor and get your hopes up I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and just say you still have a 50/50 chance either way.

Pssht, how can you get depressed from one OWT but refuse to get hope from another? Both are just guesses! You've still got your true surprise in there, GL hope you're pleasantly surprised!

Oh, okay. I'm guessing the gender is written on your chart somewhere but maybe not. I hope you get your daughter and if not, I hope you have lots of joy on the delivery day anyway.

Ladies,
I can't thank you all enough! I am really excited to meet my baby (and since the doctor today disagreed with the doctor last week about indcuction it will be a WHILE until that happens) and it means so much that you all understand wanting a particular gender but loving your baby no less no matter what. It really just means the world. Thank you for all the wishes of luck!
So glad I found this place,

Just an update I went to the OB yesterday and the heart rate was 154 and it was my usualy doc (last week I was just making sure I saw all five docs in the practice before d-day) and when I told him what last week's doc said about the heart rate he laughed and said that that is an old wive's tale and if that doctor is right maybe he will have the guy start picking his stocks for him! I was so glad to hear him say it's a bunch of crap (even though in this case I wish it were true!) because I feel much more grounded about the whole thing....I do wonder if it is a sign though that Garth Brook's "Unanswered Prayers" has been ringing in my head all day...Is God trying to prepare me for my third male miracle???
Hugs to you all,
PP
