For the love of all that is!! EVERYONE TAKE YOUR FOLIC ACID
|
|
Fearymay:hm I don't post it cause I usually only post the stuff for swaying.. I just figure it is common scence to be taking it.. both me and df are taking our FA..
might be why others don't list it either? just figure it is one you HAVE to take regardless which way you are swaying so why include it with your swaying supp. you are trying? I remember one of my posts I didn't include my prental and extra folic acid but it was because I assumed that taking it was common sense, like Fearymay said. But I guess I should always put it so that potentially those who are not aware of folic acid will see it on my list and look into it.
 Am I really having a ? Yes
Low progesterone: was on Prometrium until my 11th week. possible miscarriage 2001 miscarriage Dec 08 miscarriage Jan 09 My chart that led me to my bfp!

I agree with others...I don't think I have ever thought to list it b/c it isn't a sway....I would take it regardless of whether I was swaying, kwim?

I read this thread yesterday and cannot help but think that my situation in some way shape or form prompted the start of this thread and honestly it hurt, like maybe people are thinking that I could have done something to prevent the outcome had I only taken folic acid. Although we weren't trying to get pregnant at the time of conception, I took vitamins, and nothing I could have done or did do made any difference in the outcome. In other words, it just happens. It is one of the most common birth defects. If it was tied into anything I did or didn't do, then there would be tens of thousands more spina bifida kids born every year to mothers who took absolutely no care of themselves during pregnancy. I was taking vitamins before I got pregnant and strictly avoided all medicines, I do not drink, smoke, or do drugs, I avoided exposure to chemicals, I ate healthy, etc.
Maybe I am just overly sensitive to EVERYTHING right now, but this thread was weighing on my mind yesterday.

Melissa, I agree with you 100% because I took a prenatal vitamin with 800 mg folic acid for several months before I got pregnant even, and my son has very mild spina bifida. But then there are women who don't even know/care they're pregnant who have perfectly normal babies. It is good to take precautions but sometimes things don't develop correctly no matter what you did or didn't do. Big hugs to you.

I dunno if the amount of folic acid has anything to do with it but I startedd taking 3 800mcg aday 3 months before our IUI and released two egggs when we did our IUI. It was the first time in two years that happened. I know that becasue I have been monitored for the past two years of TTC by my RE. It was kind of exciting lol.

no, your post had nothing to do with it. Honestly it was a pm. Someone pm'd me having no clue that you need FA. She said no one else was taking it. I said well we will fix that! I'm sorry you thought it was about you.. that was just bad timeing

Side note:
If you know you ahve a MTHFR genetic variant, or if you have a reccurrent history of miscarrages (one of the symptoms of MTHFR), consider taking FOLATE instead of folic acid. Yes, it can be more expensive. Folate is what your body creates from folic acid, and if you have MTHFR, your body either can't do it at all or does it inefficiently. Folate is also found in dark leafy greens. Just don't cook 'em to pulp. :)
