I gave up coffee (caffeine) for the pregnancy. Yesterday I had a 1/2 cup of coffee and it was SOOOOOOOOOO good. My doc says a cup a day is entirely acceptable. Now that I am out of the 1st trimester (I'll be 21 weeks Friday) I was thinking of maybe indulging in a cup every now and then. Any drinkers???

I drank coffee during both of my pregancies...however mostly de-caf and no more than 2 cups a day (de-caf or not)...i did find sometimes it would give me cramps though - so thats when i would give it a few days before my next cup. I think its perfectly fine to have a cup or 2 a day...just like it is with wine.

My dr said that two 8oz cups a day is fine.  Just make sure that you don't get caffeine in other things during the day.  I started back after my first trimester.

1-2 cups of Coffee a day is fine during pregnancy. Wine is ok once in a while but I have never heard a doctor tell me that its ok to have a few cups of wine a day. I would think that would be bad for the baby as no amount of alcohol has been proven safe in pregnancy.

haha ok first of all, let me just say that I personally didn't/don't drink wine during any of my pregnancies as I don't like alcohol anyway and don't drink it normally...secondly perhaps you misunderstood what I was trying to say or maybe I should have made it clearer that I think that yes!,having a couple of cups of coffee a day is fine (although I did also mention when I did, I went mainly for de-caf) and wine too is fine... on occasion...I have been told several times that one or 2 glasses a week is fine.... I did not mean that you should have a couple of glasses a day of wine!!  (as I said, I didn't even have 1 glass) All i said was "just like it is with wine"...meaning that a couple of glasses of wine is fine it didn't necessarily go with the beginning of the sentence "I think its pefectly fine to have a cup or 2 a day" hence the "......" in between!!! I justed assumed that you all would understand what I was meaning, i forget we have to basically spell everything out in here lately!! Sorry for the misunderstanding!

I don't drink much anyway, and always avoid in pregnancy....but the French women don't! LOL! They OFTEN drink wine with dinner (maybe only a few sips though in pregnancy). The docs here don't advocate it but they don't really make them feel bad for doing it either. I personally wouldn't want to risk something that has been proven to have possible consequences. Caffeine on the other hand, although yes a drug is probally ok in moderation. Just knowing the limit for alcohol is what is hard so it is probabalby better to erro on the side of abstainence then not. The French women's babies do seem fine though--- a LOT calmer than mine! LOL! :)

I'm a bad bad pregnant woman....I drink 2 cups of coffee each morning (no de-caf for me sorry!) about twice a month I kick back and drink 1-2 wine coolers while my DH drinks beers with his buddies, I smoke 1/4 pack a day and I chug caffiene soda by the 2-liter. With some of my past pregnancies I have done much better at cutting out the bad stuff, but with this one I can't seem to...maybe it's because this baby wasn't planned nor really wanted (i'm starting to get warmed up to the idea...a little) I wish I could restrain myself as much as you ladies.

I have at least 2 cups of regular coffee in the morning! I do have an occasional soda, rarely though. I wasnt a big pop drinker before.

My doctor told me that it was okay to have one small cocktail aday. Like a glass of wine, what ever. Because it is a natrual tocolytic. ( stops preterm labor) So if non of my meds are working I will have a glass of red wine.

I didn't know about the wine helping pre-term labor! Interesting!! Glad to hear I'm not the only one indulging. I resisted the WHOLE first trimester and part of the 2d too so I really deserve my teeny tiny 6 oz cup of coffee, right!!! LOL! I have actually felt human again, I've been SOOOOOOOOooo tired. Pregnancy is tough I agree-- a ton to give up and sacrifice!!!! We can only do our best :)

As for the coffee thing (caffeine vs decaff) I have heard decaff is worse for you during pregnancy because of all the chemicals they use to remove the caffeine!!Decaff coffee in the first trimester could also lead to a miscarriage!!!

I also drink 2 cups of brewed (caffeinated) coffee every morning!
