anyone had their membrane strippped to induce labor??

My midwife said she will strip my membranes next week at 38 weeks if my cervix is dilated at at least 1-2 cm. Has anyone else had this done and if so is it painful and does it help induce labor??? I really want this baby to be born :)

Not painful just uncomfortable.  It worked the next day w/ ds3 and I was induced w/ ds4 2 days later but I think I would have went into labor on my own that day anyway.

This is the only way I seem to go into labor. With DS #1 I had it done at 39 weeks, he came one week later. With DS #2, I had it done that morning and he came them next day. It is uncomfortable, but quick. I would choose it any day over an induction! You may have some cramping and bleeding aftwerwards, but I say go for it!

i had it done w/ DS1.  it didn't hurt for me a bit-in fact, i was surprised at the water gushing out!  i had been 2 cm w/ very light labor pains (although at time i thought it was bad)  well, my labor came on quick after that.  w/in 15 min. i was begging for an epidural (never thought i'd want one but now i am so thankful they exist!)  i dilated quickly after that.  they broke my water at 3pm & my son was born at 6:26pm.  i pushed for about 45 min. i think.

    good luck!!

It wasn't painful at all for me.  It worked for DS2 but not for DS3.  After having it done with DS2, my water broke within the hour.  DS3 was born about a week after having it done.  Best to you!!

Worked for me!  I had it done at 11am and by 130am my water broke!  I had DD#1 at 328pm!  Bit uncomfortable, but not painful!

I had mine stripped at 9:00 am and started having contractions (mild) by noon, went to the hospital by 8:00 pm because they wouldn't go away and by 3:00 am my water broke and baby was born at 6:00 am. It did hurt a little bit but the labor was so much easier than all my boys. I wasn't sure if I should go to the hospital because I wasn't sure if they were even contractions because I was induced w/ 2 of my boys and those contractions were horrible. If I ever did it again I would have it done again!
