    Considering Adoption????

    Hello Ladies,

I'm so happy to see that many of you are well on your way to adopting your little ones and congrats to all of those who have completed the journey.  I have been doing a lot of soul searching since my two unsuccessful PGD attempts.  I would be a single mom and had a many reservations about being a single mom by choice, but decided to do it anyway.  After two disapointments I had come to the conclusion that adoption was the way for me, and growing up with a SW grandma I knew that I would be fine with the domestic adoption. Well, I came across a major snag when it comes to the whole gender thing. I was shocked that so many of the agencies refuse to let you specify gender.  Since learning about that, I started going back and forth with the idea of two more fresh cycles.  I still have not decided but I also have decided to look into international adoption.

I was wondering if you ladies knew of a book that I could get or any possible resource you could suggest for someone who is trying to consider all the options. I see lots of things online but get a little overwhelmed by it all.

I would probably go with an ethiopian adoption...

thanks for any assistance you can offer,  CD

Carol's daughter.....Since you are thinking of Ethiopia, I assume you are open to race, an agency in Utah called Heart to Heart will let you specify, and they have very quick timelines.  Check them out.  One of the families from our Vietnam agency used them and got a baby placed in less than a month.

    What Beauties!

I think adoption is an amazing wonderful life changing experience and a wonderful way to add to a family.  I wish you luck in your journey.  Also American Adoption is a US agency that allows gender selection for domestic adoption. It is my understanding that they have a really strong AA program.  Might be worth a phone call to them.

    Re: Considering Adoption????

    Hi Carol's Daughter,

My husband and I are thinking of switching to domestic adoption from the high tech route (although we have not done any cycles yet).  I got discouraged, too, but posted on Adoption.com and got the names of about 10 agencies in the US that let you specify gender.  Also, some birth mother liaisions will let you specify.  You then go the private adoption route.  I have PM'd with a one or two people who are well into the process of gender selecting.  They agree that they have had longer wait times but they have still only been waiting a little under a year (a pregnancy takes almost that long!).  There may also be additional costs because of the small pool of agencies but since it looks like you may be open to race this may be negated.

PM me if you are interested and I will forward the names of agencies I got.

BTW-I would love any other info anyone else has, too!

    Re: Considering Adoption????

those girls are cuties for sure!!

some people are worried about the stability of the Ethiopia program, but so far it seems to be ok, but it's gotten extremely popular!  other countries you might want to look into are Haiti (although i think that's more for older children, not infants), and i know there's a few other African countries you can adopt from like Ghana and Sierra Leone.

    good luck!! Good Luck Clover

    Re: Considering Adoption????

thanks for all of the info.  i'm trying to read and research for now.  honestly, the adoption stuff seems way more complicated than my two cycles of ivf.  you ladies are real troopers and i'm a little in awe of your fortitude.

i still have lots of soul searching to do before i make a decision.  plus, i may have some unrealistic expectations. i find the idea of ethiopia appealing because some of the kids look like me, but not sure if it's realistic to expect that's how my referral will end up.  we'll see...

    take care...CD
