This is Spinning to Stress - there are no studdies to back it up, but some people wanted this posted anyway.

This method is for ttc a dd.  The principle of this method is that the X-bearing sperm are less fragile than the Y-bearing sperm.  Using the G force of the centrifuge, a higher ratio of the X-bearing sperm will survive the 'stress'.  After removing some small portions of the semen sample from the top after spinning, lime (being an acidic substance) is then added to the remainder of the semen and TBM is then used.

For this method you will need:

    o                                Centrifuge

o                                Test tube with stopper/lid (2 required if you have a centrifuge that needs balancing - ie, more than one position for the tube)

o                                Cup or condom for dh's sample

    o                                2 x medicine droppers

o                                1 needless syringe OR douche bottle (for douching)

    o                                Bottled lime juice

    o                                pH strips

    o                                Optional:  Microscope (best magnification between 100x - 300x)

o                                Optional:  Insert Replens or Rephresh (finger tip amount) every 3 days

    The Method:

Step 1:  Dh to DTD in a cup or condom.

Step 2:  Heat the sample (semen only) in a bowl of hot water for desired amount of (30 seconds - max of 2 mins).

    2) a:  While heating semen, lay down and insert the lime/h2o douche (this is why heating time may vary).

Step 3:  Take sample (SEMEN ONLY) and check pH.

Step 4:  Transfer sample to test tube and spin in centrifuge for 5 mins.

    4) a:  With a medicine dropper remove the top portion of sample (very small amount).

Step 5:  Test pH (usually by now about 7, down from 9+).

Step 6:  Add 2 drops of lime (each person is different and so is each sample, so do what works in amount for you and your comfort level).

    Step 7:  Test pH (by now its usually a 5.5 - 6.5).

Step 8:  Second spin in centrifuge for 5 - 8 mins.

    8) a:  Remove a small top layer again with medicine dropper.

    Step 9:  Test pH (usually down to a 4.5 - 5 now).

    9) a:  If you need to add lime, I dont think any more spininng is necessary but repeat if you wish.

Step 10:  Insert all of the sample using a clean, long medicine dropper.

Step 11:  Either lay with hips elevated, or jump and dump - personal choice!

Note:  After the 1st spin you start to see a seperation of the semen.  There are some gathering in the bottom by the end of the second spin and there is a definite ball looking portion in the bottom of the test tube.

Someone with a microscope can tell what these sperm are either X or Y, as I dont have one.  This is why I choose to insert the whole sample for fear of inserting the "wrong section".

Unfortunately, you can't tell the difference in X and Y sperm with a microscope, even the type of high powered microscope used by an embryologist, because there is no visible difference.

Thanks!  I didn't type it up so I really didn't pay attention to the miner details.

Wow -- it is AMAZing to think about using all this equipment. I mean, buying a centrifuge and a microscope?  LOL. I am starting to think it might be worth it tho! I hope those things are still available

Red, do you have anything on the battery method? We're looking at possible back up plans since the GDC seems to kill dh's swimmers but I just realized I've been adding the lime before swimming so in the next experiment I'll try it after

Ya from what I found it is inconclusive.  There were no studies to back it up.  Have you thought about swim up if gdc doesn't work?

    Hi,

I'm doing all 3 methods but wondering what order to do them in? What are the chances of the X sperm suriving these methods? If I was to do only 2 what methods do you suggest?

Baby Boy - 4 years old , Baby Boy - 2 years old

    Baby Girl - ivf/pgd - no heartbeat at 7 weeks, D&C 9 weeks

Hope to cycle April / May 09 - 2 frozen embies left
