    Adoptive Family magazine

I was checking this mag on the library shelf.  There were 9 issues.  Guess which gender commanded 8 issues and guess which gender got 1 and was lucky to get that !!  I'll give you 3 tries.  If you said girl for first answer and boy for second answer, you are correct!  GRRR.

One of my issues with adopting is I feel like I'm adopting "what everyone else wants" a very young healthy girl.  I don't have that "ooh I'm helping out a child' feeling because, yes I would be I guess but I'm in line with 100 other people for that one little girl, most of whom I'm sure would take good care of her too.

Ugh, I wish people wanted to adopt boys too but even people who have NO children, or ALREADY have girls and even no boys at all, STILL go for the girls (SIGH!)

You shall learn to play with me **** And learn to use my toys

And then I think that we shall be ***** Two happy little boys.

To be honest, I really don't know why there is such a high 'demand' for girls. I don't know that in Australia there are too many country programs that we can actually select gender for the reason that there is a strong preference for girls.

Here is a link to a similar post written earlier http://in-gender.com/cs/forums/t/23493.aspx

    Re: Adoptive Family magazine

I read a really interesting article about this.  It gave several reasons for the preference including girls are easier to raise (I know many, many people that would dispute this including my mother!), girls are more innocent and attached to their parents and that adopted boys are often misperceived as having behavioral issues.  But then it goes on to say that research and statistics actually back up none of this!

Anyway, I think we are just looking at longer wait times.  I might be delusional but it seems there are plenty of infant girls to go around if you are willing to wait a little longer.
