How Much In Total would 1 cycle cost in USA and how long would I need to stay for?

    Hi

I havent been on here much recently ...

but with boy #3 expected in 4 weeks we are still thinking about high tech for a daughter hopefully next year and I have my heart set on the clinic in california

Dh said today he spoke to our mortgage man as we need to remortgage in december and he said we could borrow some extra money if I wanted to do high tech.  i would really prefer to go to california to dr potter.  I know that debs has been so i am hoping that if she is on here she will be able to give me a rough idea of the cost in total for 1 cycle including flight, accomodation etc and meds here etc - the whole total!!  also how long minimum i would need to stay in LA for as i dont want everyone knowing what we are doing etc.  i think realistically i would have to go on my own to do this because of the cost and the children.

it seems like a lot of money and i would feel so bad and guilty about spending it if it didnt work after say 3 cycles of trying if we could afford it or if i got pg and then miscarried etc

i dont feel that i could try again naturally so it is this way or nothing - i just wish i could see into the future!

so if anyone can give me an idea please i would be really grateful

    thank you

Hi, i'm kind of in the same situation, have 3 boys (although youngest was born in march). and i'm really torn at the mo between high tech or at home swaying. From what i gather i think its about £10000-15000  (with med, flights etc) but 'm sure it could over that so maybe £20000 would be agood amount to set aside....

I would be interested in the high tech that would give me the best chance - so i would want MS if it is still possible and then the pgd for gender selection or whatever it entails.

then i think you are talking about MS/IVF/PGD  and that will cost a lot more than what i said in the previous post...I havent done research on that as am only interested in the MS/IUI...IVF/PGD isnt an option for us....i would suggest going to their website i think it has the costs for everything there....

You can check HRC's website out, www.havingbabies.com they list their prices on there, depending of course on what procedure you are doing.  Also, you'll need to be in the US for 10-12 days.  GL with the imminent arrival! Good Luck Clover

I saw Dr. Potter fairly recently for an IVF/MS/PGD cycle.  My costs were as follows (in U.S. $):  IVF:  $6900, MS:  $3400, 5 probe PGD:  $3000, ICSI:  $1200, anesthesia:  $400.  I also spent about $2500 on my meds.  The website probably has updated pricing if things have changed.  I have no idea how much your travel costs would be.  I stayed at the Laguna Hills Lodge for a very reasonable rate (don't remember exactly, but I think it was under $100 per night).  I think you would need to plan on staying about two weeks--definitely 10 days.Good Luck Clover

    Hi

I am fairly new on here and have just come across your post.  I wonder if you have had your baby yet??

We are a UK couple and we cycled in California.

To sum up for you we stayed for two weeks and I would say the cost  for our MS/PGD/IVF including meds was around £10,000.

Our accom and flights etc were about £7,000 but I actually reckon that we could have halved that (and would have done if we had to do it more than once).

Good luck to you.  Hope this helps Hearts

    Hi Darcy

Congratulations on your little girl on its way!

no - my baby is still not here yet - he is a day late!!!

thank you for your reply does the £10,000 include the medication etc in London - ?  where / which clinic in london did you use? - i am in Kent so i can get to London easily.  Did you take your other children with you?  where abouts in california did you stay? was it a bit of a nightmare planning flights and accomodation around the monitoring / etc etc?

    thanks!

    Hi

Ahh you are so close to meeting your new little man - good luck to you - whenever he decides to put in an appearence!

Yes, I included the medication that we received in London in the price.  The meds were ordered by the USA and through a company called IVFMeds.com and then sent to a pharmacy in London for me to pick up.

I used the London Womens Clinic in Harley Street for my monitoring in the UK (2 visits about £500)

We stayed at the St Regis in Monarch Beach - about 15 mins drive from HRC.  It was beautiful but is expensive.

To be comletely honest yes it was a nightmare trying to co-ordinate it all but it can be done with determination.  If you need any further help please do contact me.  I know that I would have loved to have someone who had been through it help me so I am only too happy.

Oh, we left our children with the in-laws for two weeks when we went - we are pretty lucky to have  had childcare.

Lots of luck with the new arrival - my 3rd son is sooo adorable! x

Hi Darcy (again!)  You are sooooo valuable here on IG!!!

Can I ask how you first contacted the London Womens' Clinic?  Did HRC give you any help organising this? Or did you 'phone around'?  If so, how did you ask for what you needed?  I would be worried about telling the whole story to 50 people before getting anywhere and then having receptionists dishing out weird looks!

    Thank you Hearts

Re: How Much In Total would 1 cycle cost in USA and how long would I need to stay for?

    Hi

I contacted the London Womens' Clinic myself.  HRC had said that they had previous ladies who had been monitored in the UK but they did not end up providing me with any info so I called about 6 different places (mostly in London).  I actually said that I was having IVF in the USA and left it at that when I spoke to them. I said that I needed monitoring so that I could spend as little time in the USA as poss and they seemed to be fine with that.  I seem to remember that two clinics refused and the London Womens Clinic seemed the most helpful and quickest at getting back to me.

I don't think they ever asked me why I was going to the States though.

Don't you worry about the weird looks - I have had it myself from my midwife and my GP but I remind myself that they are not there to judge and keep focused on the end prize!  They just don't really understand how I feel and I suppose its not their fault...

    Take care x
