    Are 15-week u/s's reliable?

Next Tuesday I will be 14w6d (but I have been measuring slightly ahead by a day or two so I may measure 15w or 15w1d at that time). Can I get an accurate gender shot? With ds at my 15w u/s I asked the lady for a gender shot and she flat-out refused and said it was too early. We didn't find out ds's gender until I was almost 20w.

Anyone have a 15w gender shot be right? Wrong? What would I be looking for at 15 weeks? Would there be a classic turtle or 3 lines?

    Re: Are 15-week u/s's reliable?

I had my last u/s at 16 weeks on the nose and the doctor who did the u/s said it was a BOY. I don't know how reliable it is, but everyone seems to think that 15 or 16 weeks is possible. I think it depends a bit on Mom's size a bit too---larger women later and smaller/average women earlier??? I'm curious to hear replies to this thread! :)

I think if it's a boy, you have good chance at that point, if it's a girl I think you may here, "its still too early".   However depending on your size, baby growth, and position, I think you have a great chance at 15 1/2 weeks.   With my first child it was obvious at 14wks.

    Re: Are 15-week u/s's reliable?

I found out with ds2 at 16 weeks exactly, and there was no denying it! Happy LMAO We could easily see the penis/scrotum. That was at the peri's office though and they had a much better u/s machine than my regluar OB's office. I had a scan at 15 weeks too, but I had a pretty unfriendly sonographer who flat out told me that she wasn't looking at any anatomy other than the femur length and the only time she even talked to me during the scan was to tell me my cervix was OK (as I sit here rolling my eyes). But I bet you anything we could have seen it then. Happy Wink

I had a friend who found out (correctly) her baby was a girl at 15 weeks.

My opinion is that with a good shot, it's definitely possible.  I had an u/s at 14w1d and we got a very clear, between the legs shot.  There was  nothing protruding, and we saw 2 tiny white, parallel lines in the gender area.  The tech guessed girl, and it has since been confirmed.

    Re: Are 15-week u/s's reliable?

Thanks guys for the info! Now I just have to decide if I WANT to find out yet :( Do I just wait until the 20w u/s so I have 5 more weeks to daydream, or do I get it over with? Maybe I'll find out the cowardly way and not ask but just watch the screen for the money shot... <sigh>

We found out boy at our 15 week u/s, and I'm on the smaller side....not sure if that matters!

    Re: Are 15-week u/s's reliable?

Found out my 3rd was a boy at 14 weeks 1 day, here is a pic:

Here is my DD at 15 weeks 1 day(private place), it did take longer to find it was a girl b/c it was early and she kept crossing her legs. Mind you, tech and I both thought boy b/c we both thought we saw someting sticking out. She wouldn't say for sure unil she got the perfect shot(told me after). Here are some shots including the nub shot:

    Re: Are 15-week u/s's reliable?

I found out with my son at 15 weeks. In fact it was so clear that it was actually my DH who saw the gender first. The tech put the wand there and before she even got a clear pic DH yell's "Its a boy" and the tech laughed and then confirmed.

I don't know about girl though - I didn't have an early ultrasound with my DD - I saw her gender at the 20 week U/S.
