Hi ladies,
I believe that there is a company which offers international health insurance - BUPA International.
I have read that it offers maternity care but cant see anything on their website relating to IVF. Does anyone know anything about this company?
Living in Australia it seems that none of our health insurers cover IVF overseas. It would be great to find a company which could cover overseas IVF.

hi there, yes I have posted a few questions in the past about how to take out insurance when undergoing IVF overseas.. when we spoke to SART and HRC they both don't cover me incase of emergency operation or if things did go wrong... so we are looking for an insurance company that will just offer medical insurance if having a procedure OS... is this what you're also after? Did you call BUPA to see if they would cover this?

Hi,
I noticed on the HBA (who BUPA own) website that they have an overseas visitor cover (this would be for prople coming to Australia) this does cover IVF, but there is a 2 year wait so premiums would need to be paid for 24 months to claim. But depend ing on the cost and when people want to go tthis may still work out to be much cheaper.
So it seems that as a company they do offer cover to people visiting an overseas country....Maybe they have one for people visiting the USA/Thailand..............Good pick up Trucksndolls.....As you said where there is a will there is a way

I am yet to have a chance to call BUPA but in the meantime I have found another international health insurer - Global Health Insurance.
It looks like they DO cover IVF overseas however I am waiting on the policy to be emailed to me so I can read the fineprint.
I cant wait to see the monthly cost is. Hopefully it wont be too much more than our current insurance.
Here is a little bit of info from their website -
Do you offer IVF coverage? |
| Index of Questions |

Question: Hi, I am looking at undergoing IVF treatment in NY city. While we live in Australia and have health care here it would not cover the USA. Do you have a cover for IVF in the USA? regards Sheril Answer:
We can provide comprehensive international health insurance maternity plans that will offer you IVF and infertility treatment coverage. Plans are available with one of two areas of cover, worldwide or worldwide excluding USA. Plans that provide coverage in the USA will typically be much more expensive than those that don’t because of the high costs of healthcare in the country. Plans that we can provide for you that cover IVF treatment are globally portable and guaranteed renewable for life, this means that you will always have the coverage that you need no matter what happens in the future.
Plans with an infertility IVF treatment benefit will cover you for initial investigations up to the point of diagnosis, investigative procedures to establish the cause of infertility such as laparoscopy or hysteroscopy. IVF cover is provided for up to a maximum of 4 IVF attempts in the policyholder’s lifetime, this will include any IVF treatment that you may have received prior to the start of your plan. Each IVF treatment that you receive while on the plan will be covered up to a maximum of US$ 3,750. It is important to note that there is a waiting period attached to IVF treatment of 18 months from the start of the plan. This means that you are unable to claim for any IVF or infertility related treatment prior to having been on the plan 18 months.
A maternity benefit with IVF coverage will provide maternity coverage for the mother in the event that they are expecting a single child. If, as a result of the IVF treatment, you are expecting more than one child then each child will be covered up to US$37,500 for the first three months of life, after this limit has been reached you must make an application to the insurance company for continuing coverage.
The plans that we can offer are flexible and fully comprehensive. In many cases these plans will allow you to tailor the coverage to meet your specific needs giving you the peace of mind that you are getting the exact levels of coverage that you deserve. With global portability and guaranteed lifetime renewals, you never have to worry about not having coverage no matter where you are in the world, or what medical conditions you have developed. International health insurance plans always calculate premiums based on the policyholder’s age and geographical area of coverage, never on your claims history, this gives you the assurance that no matter how much medical treatment you receive you will always have the same premium as everyone else in your age group.

Ok, I just got the info... .
I almost fell off my chair when I saw the annual cost... because of this it may rule out this option however there is alot of info to read & understand.
Below is the email response & I will try to attach the attachments. You will see the quote is based on me & my hubbys age & 1 child.
Dear Christine, Thank you for contacting Globalsurance about your medical insurance. My name is Daniel and I will be pleased to help with your inquiryGlobalsurance is one of the world's largest medical insurance brokers. We work with all of the major international medical insurance providers giving advice to clients throughout the world. We are a Hong Kong based Insurance Brokers and I am located in our Shanghai office. Please take a look at the attached medical overview table for a comparison of benefits and premiums across a couple of insurers. I have quoted you plans with both inpatient and outpatient cover, as per your request. I have also attached some quotes with Dental cover, just so you can compare the Premiums.I have quoted an excess/deductible on each plan from US$40 to US$1,600. I have done this to show you a range of quotes. There is a wide spectrum of excesses/deductibles available and I can easily quote different ones for you, upon request, so you can see how it affects the annual premium. The deductible/excess is the amount of eligible medical expenses you would pay before your insurance would cover you. Some insurance companies have "per year" while others have "per condition" excesses/deductibles. Both IHI and IMG uses per year.Per year means that if you have a excess/deductible of "$100 per year" this means that if you have a broken leg for example, you will pay the first $100 towards the cost and any remaining treatment will be covered by your insurance. You will pay nothing else for the remainder of the policy year. All plans quoted are in USD, and are for annual worldwide coverage. The plans from IHI will cover you worldwide and their IHHP plan will also cover two children under the age of ten for free, per parent on the plan which means that your next child will be covered for free as well. The ISM plan from IHI is a very high end plan which is very comprehensive. The Maternity benefits is the best you can find. The inpatient treatment related to Maternity is fully covered and the outpatient has a 40,000 USD limit which is very high. The plans from IMG will cover you worldwide excluding the US and Canada, however it does provide limited cover up to USD 900,000 inside these countries that must be within their preferred hospitals network and has a 20% co-insurance. You can also not spend more than 6 months a year inside the US on the plan. You have a free choice of Doctor and Hospital anywhere in the world. You can choose to pay for the plans monthly, quarterly, semi annually or annually. The insurance travels with you so wherever you are in the world you will be medically covered at all times. So whether you are in Europe, Australia, Asia, Middle East, Africa etc you will be covered at all times. Please note that different companies have different policies regarding pre-existing medical conditions. Please advise me if you have had any major surgery in the past or if you have in the past, or are now, taking any medication for on-going conditions. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I can call you at a time convenient to you if there is anything you may need clarified.

Hi Trucksndolls,
Sorry I am having trouble seeing the quote.
Would the cost alter much to just cover yourself? And then look at keeping our own Australian PHI?
