    Regarding adopting embryos

I know someone who is infertile and for religious reasons can only consider embryo adoption (IUI and IVF are out).  This person has already adopted a son and is interested in adopting a female embryo.  Is there someone at HRC that they could contact to find out about being considered for this?  They have already been on a list for over a year for embryo adoption (not gender specific) and none have come up though they were told originally that it usually takes about three to six months.

Would you say that hoping to adopt a particular gendered embryo is an impossibility?  She would be willing to take MS'd embryos too to increase her likelihood of a girl and in truth would probably be happy with a boy, but I had told her about gender selection and since she has adopted a boy she thought it might be nice to have a girl next.  Are there any other resources that you know of for this?  One that might yield results more quickly?  Is there a better agency for this?  Or do you have to contact each clinic independantly?

Thanks so much for any help on this.  I would like to help her in any way that I can.  It is looking like adopting overseas is going to take well over two more years and seems precarious at best considering the state of these third world countries, not to mention all she had to go through the first time.

I know that some of the embryo adoption services do not allow gender choice. But if there are extra embryos where the gender is known and the parents are willing to give them to an infertile couple, why not? I would think a center like HRC or GIVF would be a good place to start, but I don't know if they deal with embryo adoption at all. I wonder if someone on here with extra embryos could donate directly to your friend?

    Re: Regarding adopting embryos

There is a group out there called Snowflakes.org that does embryo adoption.  I contacted them about adopting embryos, but you cannot gender select.  They told me even if I were to do PGD on them, I would have to implant everything that we thawed out.  I think the only way to adopt a girl would be if someone in that organziation was adopting already PGD'd embies, and I don't know that there are any families like that involved in Snowflakes.  I also contacted HRC when I was told I would not qualify for Microsort, and asked about their families donating their embies.  I was told it rarely happens, and when it does, they usually go to a family already using HRC services.

I really only know of that one organization doing embryo adoption, all the other agencies are working through them, so I don't know of a better option if that is who she is already waiting with.  We have been pursuing an international adoption for the last year, and the outlook isn't good, I know why she would be reluctant to start that process.
