I don't know if this is the right place, but I wanted to suggest an alternative bread recipe! The one from the cookbook was a little, well, yeasty tasting. DH (who is more into bread making!) said that it is because there were no ingredients added to counter the lack of salt. The salt and sugar in bread aren't just for flavour, they make the yeast do what it is supposed to do!
DH suggested a new recipe and I tried it this morning and it is great! It contains some additional ingredients that are girl friendly, and some that I'm not positive about! I really hope it is okay, because it is really tasty!
Here it is:
Country Bread
1 to 1.5 cups milk (maybe a little more or less - enough to make a dough)
1/4 tsp ascorbic acid (vitamin C - you can get it at baking supply stores. It does what salt normally does in bread)
1 egg
1.5 tbsp unsalted butter
4 cups white bread flour
3 tbsp sugar (to feed the yeast... makes it fluffy!)
2 tsp yeast
Add the ingredients to your bread machine, in the order listed. Set to basic bread and go! Watch for a minute, to make sure it looks liek bread dough when mixed. It might need a little more milk or a little more flour. It should look like bread dough!
Per slice (makes about 12 slices):
Calcium: 35 mg
Magnesium: 12 mg
Potasium: 83 mg
Sodium: 16 mg
(Most of the sodium is from the milk and egg. I got the data from FitDay) As they are good for a girl, I figured it wasn't too bad!
Thanks again for everything you do!
