Are you picky with you DD's clothes? Or am I just shallow?

Ok so I'm SUPER picky with DD's clothing. Most of the time she wears Gymboree, Baby Gap, or Old Navy (cheap when on sale) but I have a friend who has a DS and a DD and dresses them THE SAME! the little girl wears jeans and polo shirtsSurprise hand me downs none the less! I know she is not hurting for money because my friend herself wears nice clothes, So I wonder what is going on? OH and when I went to her DD's bday party I dressed up my baby all nice and when I saw the bday girl I was in TOTAL SHOCK! she had on dingy shorts and a stained Tshirt and her hair was VERY nappyWorried I think I would of dressed her in nice party dress and her her hair done up nice (but that is just me)

I don't know if I'm shallow or I like to have my kids well groomed. I just wanted to also say that I DO shop at the thrift store and find WONDERFUL clothes for $1 that look like new and are very cute. I also am picky with what DS wears. He is not allowed to wear cartoon on his shirts anymore because he is 5 now. and He HAS to match at all times. I don't like tenni shoes on him either, he has to wear slip on Vans or some skater looking shoes.

Ok so what are your thoughts? LOL!

How old is your friends dd?  Cause from what I have heard from other girl moms, girls tend to have a huge say in what they wear from age 2 on...LOL...

Seriously.  I have seen this....haha.  One of my friends dd's will wear ski jackets and boots in the dead of summer because she throws a fit if she doesn't pick out her wardrobe everyday.  My cousins dd is this way too.  Right down to her underpants.  I bet this is what is going on if she is in this age range.  If not and she is still a baby like your dd....I am at a loss.

I am somewhat picky.  Not at night when no one can see my dd.  She wears spiderman jammies and hand me downs of the boys when I know we aren't going anywhere.  For me, it just matters if it is clean...LOL

     I'm picky too.

I like my dd to wear gymboree and gap. And i like my boys to wear Old Navy, Gap and occasionally gymboree.

And if we are going anywhere special i like to dress ALL my kids up. But ds1 does give me a hard time ALOT so i usually have to comprimise with him.

However...i do buy just about everything on sale/clearance, on ebay, at a handmedown store  but only if it is in pristine condition, and as gifts. I very rarely pay full price. (I have expensive taste but I don't have the money Stick out tongue)

Yup...she is at the age! ...LOL...I know my dd is going to do this to me.  I just KNOW it.  My 2 bff's dd's are ok with picking their clothes out, but I can tell you I have yet to meet a little girl who does not try to have some say in their wardrobe.  My boys could CARE LESS!  I pick out what they wear everyday.  So when these moms tell me this about their dd's I am stunned.  Like how can it be THAT DIFFERENT???  But apparently it is.  I just can't wait to see what my dd does to me at that time.  Hopefully she won't run into her big brother room and insist on wearing their underwearWorried

I don't let my kids leave the house looking dirty or ragged (except for ds1 now and his silly pants-lol) but dh has told me on many, many occasions that being a girl was wasted on me. I don't like dressing up and I don't make my kids get all spiffed up, either. I'm fine with them all wearing jeans and tshirts. I had tons of frilly things for dd when she was born but they were gifts...now that she's growing we don't have much....I don't think she even has a dress that fits her now.

So I guess I'm not at all picky. I don't care about brands. I'll shop anywhere...as long as it's cheap. Well, except for shoes. I like Reebok or Nike as they seem to last longer. So I always get those for the boys.

I have a four-year-old BOY who won't let me choose his clothes anymore! He has a dresser full of cute clothes (mostly hand-me-down, garage sale, or resale, but cute and in good condition), with lots of cute outfit potential. This summer he has insisted on wearing striped shirts with plaid shorts, mis-matched socks (usually two totally different colors like one red, one black), and sandals. When I took him to the eye doctor last week, she took one look at him and said very sweetly "Did you choose your own clothes today?"

I figure I need to pick my battles, and I make sure to choose his clothes for church or other occasions that matter to me, but for everyday, it doesn't matter. I think it's cute, and I'm taking lots of pictures that I'm sure will come back to haunt him!

I am not picky with my dd's clothes at all. I wouldn't say she's dressed ragged, or her clothes are stained, but she does wear a lot of jeans and tshirts, and casual, comfy clothes. THat's how I like to dress myself (for comfort) so that's just how I dress my dd. I also get most of my dd's clothes second hand, she grows just too fast to buy expensive, new clothes. I am sure I will dress my next baby the same.

I dont think i spend alot on clothes ( my Dh might bet the differ) but i do buy my DD1 nice cute comfy clothes...ofcourse they have their play clothes which are not scraggy looking and church/going out clothes...I dont really buy brands...i buy whatever looks nice

And all my DD1's clothes are kept in great condition so they are passed down to DD2...so she has nothing new but you wouldnt know unless i tell you that they are hand me downs

Re: Are you picky with you DD's clothes? Or am I just shallow?

I am very picky with ds, like you say, he is not allowed cartoon character clothes, and he is only 2... but omg, I think there is nothing tackier than a Thomas the tank shirt on a boy or winnie the pooh or something... anyway I do enjoy shopping for him, I like the skater look too ;-) Unfortunately at 24 months old, ds is picky about what he wears too.... he only likes certain shoes, and won't wear a pair that I think is adorable, ( litle nike Jordans) He has play clothes of rrunning around autside, and then his nice clothes too, I don't spend loads of money though, i loves thrifts and sales! anyway, if i had a dd I would be even more picky probably, with that i don't mean frilly but picky, I like the dressed down look, but it can still look clean, neat and groomed!
