    Finances for Aussies

    Hi all,

Not sure if it is true, but someone told me that you can withdraw money from your super for medical IVF treatment.

Anyone know if this is true and if a treatment plan and invoice from O.S clinic would be ok?

Wow.. I am excited with hope!

I have just called my Super fund & they have told me to call APRA (1300131060) APRA govern all super releases.

OK, I just got off the phone.. The deal is that they do release funds for medical expenses however not for IVF.. BUT.. they do consider releasing funds if you have a mental problem (ie. depression!!!)

You would need a GP to confirm that you have depression (easy done as its not far from the truth). It would not guarentee the release of funds but it would then fit into their medical catagory!!

(I say we all get to our GP!) Happy LOL   ..oops.. I mean   [:'(]

     That is very interesting.

If money can be relaesed from super to help treat depression how can PGD for mental health resaons be denied in Aus.

Anyway anything that can offer a bit of hope is great to hear about.

    Hi Ladies,

    Thats great.

I am actually going to see a psycologist (to help with my EXTREME GD anyway) but I would look at doing that too.

A report from a psyc would be more detailed than a GP and more persuasive I think.  For the one I am seeing I dont need a referral and I get a rebate from my PHI.

    Good Luck

Ps. Just out of curiosity.....Has anyone ever tested the mental health theory with the ethics boards in Australia.

I was reading that in Melb at RWH the board ok'd a late term (32 week) abortion as the mother was suicidal.  The pregnancy was terminated to preserve her mental health.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever tested the theory ie. if I get pregnant with another boy I will be suicidal etc...etc....

    Just a thought

Yes I have and they didnt care. I sent an email and told the Medical Ethics board I have been diagnosed (which I was) as having clinical depression (suicidal, not coping/sleeping etc) due to GD when I was preg with my 2nd DD. They said go get medical psych help for that and nothing else. I already was seeing a psychiatrist when they sent that.
