i was thinking of dusting off the bread maker i have in the garage. i always buy the same loaf of bread. actually 2 loafs every week. it's up to $4 a loaf. i was wondering if anyone knew if making whole wheat bread would be cheaper. how long does it keep? i could do it twice a week if needed.

I've never used a bread maker, so I don't know what all's involved with it, but I used to make regular home-made bread. It was considerably cheaper but kind of a pain to do. Tasted wonderful, though.

I used to make bread a lot, too.  I love fresh baked bread.  I get my bread at the Sweetheart Bakery Outlet -- it's gone up a bit, but I get our wheat for $1.45 a loaf still.  Maybe you could see if you have a bread store near you -- it is A LOT cheaper than the grocery store.

my mom has one, but used it once, so I don't know.  But, I do want to know what kind of bread you buy that's $4/loaf?  I buy a good grain one and it's only $2. 

 We make all our own bread, but I often forget to set the machine up and it takes three hours, so if it's too late there's no bread with supper, lol!!!

Most of the really good ones around here are that expensive. I buy the store brand so it's cheapo, but Pepperidge Farm and the multi-grain Sara Lee ones are $3.89 here.

 I have a breadmaker and i use to make my own bread all the time.

But i really do not find it cheaper than in the store...but then again it is only $2-3 for a load not $4

Plus i find that we actually eat more bread because it is so fresh and yummy and squishy and smells so darn good And i think you end up cutting the slices thicker too.

the bread is arnold's doubble fiber  bread thats $4 a loaf. i need to buy 2 loafs, because it has less slices than a fuller loaf for less i use to buy. tmi, but i really have liked having that extra fiber. i don't eat cereal,and other than bread, yogert, and apples thats all the fiber i get. plus doing weight watchers i was straving and because of the fiber it was only 1 point a slice. the ww bread tast like air. i've started this week buying a cheaper loaf for dh. well see if he has anything to say about it.
