    Emily,

I understand that you dont want to feel like "scum" LOL, but please consider this -

we all go through phases in life, and even though I and DH do financially fine today,

when I was at law school I had to take state financed loans to survive during my studies.

    Well during the summer

months here in Sweden you dont get that loan, so I always had to find a summer-job.

One summer I just could not find one - not even cleaning/waitressing/ telemarketing nothing...

I was soo desperate and I went to the social security office - and it felt like a big failure to go there

among all long-term unemployed, some with a criminal history well basically what you

may call the "scum" - but after having answered thier thousands of questions, and done all the

paperwork that they needed, I did get some money that took me through the summer. I dont regret that!

But I made sure I never had to go there again - so what I am saying is that if you need help

from the state (or whatever kind of subsidy that you can get in your state) - use that, please do!!

Noone will look down on you or your family for getting help when you need to. I did this and

I am a tax lawyer  Happy Wink

It's not that I have a problem with him working two jobs.  It's just that if he spends all his time working we'll never get the rest of the work on the house done and get it sold.  So he'll be stuck working all the time just to pay for high interest on a mortgage for a house that isn't even worth that much and that we don't even want to live in anymore.  It doesn't make any sense.

I also don't have a problem with using government assistance.  It's just that we had Medicaid for our 1st 3 pregnancies and our kids were on it for quite a while (part of the time only because it's the only way we could get DD1's health coverage) and for part of the time we used WIC also.  I decided if we were going to make the choice to have any more kids that we shouldn't do it on government assistance.  Especially since DH had got such a great job and everything.  I know it's not all our fault we are in the situation we are in now and we are trying the hardest that we can.  It just majorly sucks.

I'm really bitter that we are trying so hard but that being in lower middle class bites the worst, we are the ones who work the hardest and get screwed the most.  If we had just not payed our bills and things and let it go until it went to collections we would've gotten special treatment from the government because of the new bill they passed.  But no we work our butt off to keep up and now we are no better off.

Well, anyways the solution DH came up with last night is that he will work his 2nd job part time 2-3 days a week to make just enough to cover what we aren't already.  Then the other nights of the week he will work on the house or spend time with me and the girls.  So I'm going to set some goals to make sure I'm organizing and cleaning as much as I can, despite how tired and sick I am.  That way maybe the house will actually be clean enough to put it up for sell soon!  Now I just have to pray that the house will get finished quick and sell quick and that we can find a good house and get a good interest rate and mortgage we can afford this time.

Emily your are so lucky to have dh that is willing to do anything for you and the girls. Eveybody is having a hard time in this econonomy.

Dont be embarrase to get WIC. Wic is for you and your girls you are missing out. I get it for my Sammie. I just manage to qualify because hey! she is entitle to it. Wic is for Woman and children. It help us alot. It not much but it is something. I'll take it!

We work fulltime.  The stress of a long commute, the anxiety of not being able to see and care for my daughter, and the gas being so expensive.

Emily, sounds like you have a good plan going on. You are so lucky to have such a caring DH that goes above and bejond for his family.

There is no shame is getting help from the govenment if you qualify. As soon as DH gets his pink slip (next week) I'm going down to WIC and perhaps apply for food stamps because WE NEED to take care of our children.

I'm praying that we don't need assistance for a long time, DH is busting his butt trying to look for a new job. He has applied in almost every state in the US.

I just wanted to say that I am sorry you are going through this, we are having a really rough time right now too and although we are current on our major bills, there are other ones we can't afford to pay each month so we cycle them. We have equity in our house but our credit is too bad to get a second mortgage because of being SO behind on credit card bills which we are trying to pay off. I know you don't want to use your credit, but if that's what you need to do to get the basics, then I would do it. (((hugs))) and prayers Pray
