Well I think these clinics do gender selection, but "in the silent" and that they do that all the time.

But just as MM wrote - what if they did something wrong, what if you got hurt or diseased by their

procedure and wanted economic compensation or your money back? It would not be easy to get money

back on a contract that is illegal in the first place, so the clinic could very well argue that they

never meant to do the IFT/PGD process - that would be my biggest fear.

But then again - what options have we here? For me I dont think I can rely on the natural swaying

either, and to travel somewhere else in the world (US, INDIA or other countries) would be too costly.

I do think that Rainsbury has a good reputation though and that they have a sort of "three trials offered

at one reduced price" LOL - but still it is an awful lot of money to me and my family - it would

be like taking up a new mortgage, it is insane!!!

My mind just thought what if we all go together and started a clinic with educated staff and

had the IVF/PGD without anoyne else having the ec profit. Maybe the prices had been cut with

at least 25%. Or if we came together and they could charge us a "group fee" as we would be many

who came at the same time? Ok I need a reality check here, but just like NAS I feel that when the technique is

there, why would we not benefit from it, just by the fact that they charge the immense costs for it?

I like that idea, my DH could see I'm not the only 'mad' GD person in the world so maybe it isn't such a bad thing doing HighTech!

It is unfair that the costs are just so out've reach of too many of us. I was searching for a thread somewhere on here asking how we can afford to do HighTech; I had suggested the idea that an American lady did of basically asking people to donate $1 over the internet & within 18 months she'd paid her $20,000 debts off! - I thought this was a fantastic way to get money, I suggested it to my then boyfriend as he was worried about debt plus his job was setting up internet sites but he was far too embaressed, Boo. Anyway I wanted to add that I'd seen an article about another woman asking for cash on the net to get fake breasts & she got them - I spose part of the deal was showing them off, eeuu, but there must be some rich benevolent types out there on the net who'd like to help with GD?! - It's more positive than wanting bigger boobs or clearing debts, surely. I know there'd be negative publicity unless you pretended you just wanted IVF, no PGD?

Maybe I should put up a sign at my desk saying "Please donate a euro for my future DD"

but we do have a collection each week for a wine-lottery (!) that is very sucessful, so why not

Seriously, if we were at least 10 women together asking for the whole IVF/PGD-gender sel procedure

maybe some clinic would offer us a reduced fee?

here in Sweden the documentaries have been very popular - so my though were if some of the

commercial channels would agree to make it a documentary and pay for the whole thing, but then again would one stand

the publicity involved? Would it really be worth it???

I'd be happy, anything to get my DS & I think I could personally handle the publicity - But I don't know about DH & more importantly I worry what DD or even DS would feel when they got older & heard about it? I'm hoping to keep my GD secret from DD as they grow up, I want them to have good self-esteem like I didn't.

But I can't see how else I could afford to go HighTech [Winning the lottery is'nt reliable altho that doesn't stop me trying] & swaying is too risky?

Oooo I'm excited again about the czech clinic!! - apparantly, technically they can not do PGD strictly for gender selecting. But, if you tell them that you want it done to check for Downs Syndrome, when they give you the report before the transfer, they will let you know the sex and then you pick the embryo's to transfer. A little silly, but it is how it must be done.

I'd want a Downs check anyway, even if I wasn't over 35 [it can happen at any age] so it wouldn't even be a lie! It sounds hopeful?! And I think its cheaper than Turkey, & closer for me [In UK] Plus I can bribe DH with that idea of a holiday involving czech beer..

 I'm really interested in this Czech clinic!  If I have another DS I think that would be my back-up plan for getting my DD.  I'm an Aussie/Kiwi but will probably be based in the UK and Europe for a few years so the Czech clinic is sounding pretty darn good.  If anyone gets any more info on it can you let us know?

just google on ivfvacation and you will find it! It sound very good to me too, and

if I rem correctly there is an american couple acting as "hosts" so they take care of everything for you

to make it easier. Good luck with your second pregnancy by the way - and having a little brother

to your son is not the end of the world either - so you may be in a win-win situation LOL!

I have realised that Czech is in Europe but not in the EU, which is why I was confused & it's Czech Republic now not Czechoslovakia. And it's definately closer to UK than Turkey!

Thanks Krissymum!  I have googled now and the website is quite informative - it doesn't mention the price for PGD was the only thing, but that's all way down the track for me.

Having a little brother for my son would be lovely, definitely not the end of the world at all! I would love another boy to bits, although I'm swaying for a girl. I definitely want a little girl someday... 

Apparantly tho PGD is legal in half of Cyprus? Altho I've read posts saying it isn't. I think, if money were no option I'd go with the Jinemed Turkey/Cyprus 3 week Hotel package, babysitter permitting - have it all done in 1 place & stay in their hotel with pool. The Jinemed web-site seems very professional, if that's anything to base a judgement on..

It's cheaper than other clinics I've heard of too. Ideally I wouldn't 'skimp' on something like this but unless I win the lottery I havn't much choice. I think it was $4,600 last year for PGD? That's got to be less than the £5,500 for Turkey, tho that would include the hotel. Hmm.

I'm very interested in the Czech clinic, I know some of you have been in contact with them, but did any of you get a definate answer if they will do family balancing or not? TIA

Hello Ladies....I have a consultation booked with Jinemed ( Turkey) this weekend.....I will post a thread next week to let you all know how it went!

Since booking this consultation I have since discovered UKCFU..which I think sounds excellent  (as they have English doctors and nurses, which appealed to me).....but they are more expensive.   I am going to still go to my appointment with Jinemed as I have paid £100.  My main concerns with Turkey is the language barrier, so we will see.  Just wish soo much it was legal in the UK,  going abroad anywhere for this treatment is very daunting but if it works it will be sooooo worth it!
