    Korea or Ethiopia?

I haven't done a ton of adoption research yet but these are my top choices right now. What is the situation in Korea right now? I want a healthy girl under 2 yrs. Wait time is not an issue as I'm pregnant right now. I don't mind waiting 3+ years even. Which would you choose?

Korea, no question.  The Ethiopia program is starting to show some signs of instability, and I wouldn't be surprised if it went through some major changes or even a temporary shut down in the next 2-3 years.  Korea is the gold standard of adoption programs, if you don't mind waiting, that is what I would pick.  The referrals are given when the child is around 5-6 months and you can travel to pick them up or have them escorted.  Most are right under a year when they come home.  Hope that helps.  There are several Korea mama's in waiting on this forum that I am sure can give you better info.  Good luck!!

I agree with etopf.  I might also add that with Ethiopia things are moving pretty fast.  Also the babies are coming home under 3 months.  From what I have heard (have a friend thinking of adopting a girl from Ethiopia and she has done a ton of research) the program has really ironed out its problems and I don't think it will close down if things keep moving in the direction it is going.  Here is how would decided.
Want an infant girl with about an 8 month wait = Ethiopia.  Want a girl age 12+ months with a wait of 24 = Korea.

From what I understand with all agencies the youngest child in the home must be age 1 before an adoption can take place (not before you start the paper work).

Good luck and keep us posted : )

Thanks you guys. It's going to be a while before we are able to complete the homestudy anyway but I thought maybe we could go ahead and get started on the other paperwork since I know it can be very time consuming. I was leaning toward Korea anyway just b/c it's such an old program.
