about a mother in Britain who was still breastfeeding her younger daughter, nearly 8 years old. It was bizarre and fascinating to hear both her daughters talking about the experience of breastfeeding, since I wean at 1.5 years and my kids don't have that kind of memory of it. What do you think of this?

It's not for me, but if it works for her it's OK..

I don't understand the point of it at this age.  It's definitetly not for the nutritional value.  Makes me wonder what the mom is getting from it....security maybe.  I'm all for extended nursing, but this seems to be taking it a little far.  Also, very unrelatable for an eight year old to relate to her peers.  There are many other ways for a mom to remain close to her daughter.  Strange!

they had a program about this in aust not long ago a lady was bf her 9yr old boy IMO that is not right it even showed him doing it she said he couldnt wait to get home from school!!!!

i bf my DD'S so i have nothing against bf but i think there is a limit on what age but everyone has their own way of doing things i suppose

I think it's wrong. At that age, it's totally about the mom and not at all about the child. As parents, we are supposed to do what's best for our children.

 NOT for me either. I'm all for breastfeeding but i think 8 is way to old.

Aaaaargh! That's disgusting! - Those poor kids'll be taumatised for life, what do they say at school, or do they get 'home' taught? Rightly or wrongly the moment you tell someone you got breast-fed at 8 they will judge you & your family as total freaks, it's not fair on the kid is it? And why do that to them when they'd be happier with real food?! It's like child cruelty

I'd also like to point out this isn't a normal occurence in the UK! That breast-feeder must have strange bossoms, like trailing on the floor.

This was a hot topic for discussion a while back, and there were some very strong opinions either way..I feel the same as most of you...its kind of a "to each their own" but I still don't feel at 8 years old that it is right...however, when I stated this opinion I about got my head bit off...but that is still my opinion..I was unabel to b/f my youngest DS for very long nad would have loved to have been abel to longer, but not too 8 years old!!!  I worry about the children...how their friends must look at them when they tell them, and if they don't tell them, then why not if its not a shameful event??  Or the parents friends views as well..I am sure most people would be shocked to know, i know I would be!!!  But as I said..to each their own...and this is just my feelings!!!

WoW This is too weird!!! It just seems weird and as though the child is totaly dependant upon the mom. Dont we want our children to be independant?
