    twins

     Hi doctor Potter,

After having 3 sons my husband and i would love a daughter (or two!) and obviously with IVF one is increasing ones chances of twins anyway but is there anyway of actually increasing the chances any more? I mean, am i right in thinking you generally put say 3 female embyos back inside with IVF/PGD, if you put say 5 back in does that make it that much more likely that one would go to have a multiple pregnancy? We live in UK and our youngest son is only 4 months so am thinking of waiting till all the boys are at school until going ahead with IVF/PGD. I am 23 at the moment, would waiting till i'm 30 be o.k or would i have a better chance becoming pregnant quickly if we did it sooner?

    Thankyou!

    Beth

    Re: twins

     Hi Beth,

I'm not the doctor but I am a mom of twins and I thought I'd chip in here.  I think it akes a lot of sense to wait until your boys are older.  A twin pregnancy is quite taxing on the mom and taking care of newborn twins is a hell of a job. I can't imagine trying to do it with toddlers around.  Good luck on your journey.

    Re: twins

I doubt that a dr would put back 5 embryos, especially on a first time IVFer. Usually they only put back 2.
