    Blood Test for Gender?

With mistakes in U/S posted on here - suprisingly high tho' it only seems to happen to those that don't want it -! I wondered about Blood Tests; Don't they determine gender from 7 weeks, if you get a reliable lab?

Maybe Gender Disappointment isn't the correct forum for this? Though I havn't found an answer to this in Gender Prediction, just some warnings against the PinkorBlue test?

There have been reports for errors from EVERY blood or urine test.  Some have many errors reported.  So regardless of the accuracy they claim, while there are errors reported, after you have paid the money for the test, you are still left wondering -- is it a boy or a girl?

I can tell you I have never seen anyone more devastated than the mothers who bought these tests, trusted in them 100%, believed that they were having their heart's desire granted for months, and then got a bombshell at u/s or even delivery when it was the opposite gender.  It was not just disappointment, it was believing that their son or daughter existed for months, and feeling like that baby had been taken away from them because it wasn't true.

Oh, thats a pity, I thought they could do it by DNA, even if it was pricey..

the thing is that it is medically possible for them to do it, but these companies selling their product do not have the kinks worked out.  It is not perfected.  They are missing some links.  One of the big links is that mothers can go on to carry their sons DNA in their body for generations and it is actually the cause of many auto immune disorders like thyroid disease.  But they won't tell you that.  They will say it's impossible...which it is NOT.  There is also a big contamination risk.  Unless you are having your sample taken in an controlled environment where the risk of contamination is minimal at best, you can't be sure that DNA of another person was on or near your sample.  You can do your best to avoid this, but in the end your house is not a sterile environment. Lastly, this concept is not new.  It is genetically possible to tell someone the gender of their baby using PCR method but these companies selling their tests, are not telling the consumer all the facts.  The facts are simple, there are outside forces that can and will effect the sample...therefore, it should not be sold as a fun way to find out gender because it is being presented to be so much more then that.  Women and men get their hopes up and the results can and will be wrong a large percentage of the time for so many reasons.

When I took Pink or blue, my environment was cleaned a few times before I began.  I figured a test like that can't be wrong because it was DNA....I mean how can that be wrong right??  Well, it was.  Told me boy and I had a girl.  So I will never trust these tests again!

I was going to ask about blood test for gender too.

In China, the clinic that I went to can draw mother's blood to check for gender and down's?? My friend claimed it's true, she did it with her 1st DS and now did again for 2nd DS. It costs about $300. I don't know if it's true or not, supposedly it is sent to a lab....we didn't do it because we will find out through amnio anyway - for age reason. I have 6-7 weeks more to wait!

Aren't there anything like this in US? I've never read anything about it, though...

    Re: Blood Test for Gender?

They are all scams!! I was told I was having a boy and my baby is all girl. My OBGYN told me that its really not possible YET to determine gender simply by a drop of blood from the mothers finger. Mom and babys blood never mix while she is pregnant so the only way to tell for sure is by a CVS or ammnio.

    Re: Blood Test for Gender?

a CVS test is done during early pregnancy. Its usually done by inserting a small needle into the cervix via the vagina and taking some fluid for genetic testing. It will tell you the gender of your baby as well as if baby has an genetic problems. Its not painful and it feels like a pap test. You may have some cramping for a few hours after the procedure. There is a small risk of M/C with the procedure but its not common. You can ask your doctor about it for more info :)

    Re: Blood Test for Gender?

I have read about scientists in hong kong developing a blood test for identiying genetic markers for downs syndrome early in pregnancy without the need for an amnio or CVS. I had to make the decision of whether to have an amnio or not and this would have reduced my stress dramatically.  Working on research like this they can't be far off developing a reliable way of identifying gender through a blood test, surely???
