All 3 of my kids have eczema but ds#1 has it the worst.  First, get a hypoallergenic body/baby wash and bathe him every other day instead of everyday.  Aveeno makes a great wash and they even have one that is soap free for babies.  As soon as you get him out of the tub and dry put hydro-cortizone cream on any bad/extra dry itchy patches.  Then on top of that cover him in a Aveeno baby lotion or Suave makes an oatmeal lotion as well that is a lot cheaper but works just as well.

Doing this helps my son, but it never makes it go away entirely.  There are prescriptions but I'm iffy about the side effects so we haven't gone that route yet. I hope that your ds is able to get some relief.

make sure he is only in 100% cotton clothes. sometimes the synthetics can irritate the excema. hydro cortesone worked for us too. and then i know this sounds weird... but desitin makes a clear diaper cream that we used to use on DS's face... it was very oily/greasy.. but it kept the air off of his irritated skin and helped it to heal

My kids are major eczema kids. We are an EXTREME case.  DS#1 was even hospitalized because it was so severe. Only a few things have worked for us.

1. Moisurizing and then a wrapping the affected area with first aid bandage.

2. Getting out in the sun. Do not cover the affected area with sun screen. ( sounds scary but the dermatoligist recomened this and it works) Not for long term though.

3. Benedryl if the Child's itching is making it worse.

S'mommy to three great boys!

I have been using baby oil body wash for babys skin. Its nice because it keeps all the extra moisture in babys skin where its needed. Try Aveeno  naturals eczema lotion or dermarest has a eczema lotion but it has hydrocortisone in it. My DS doctor told me to use that as long as its no more then twice a day.

My son had mild eczema, i applied hydocortisone cream on the affected areas ONLY, and upto this day, SLATHER on Gerber baby oatmeal lotion right after he gets out of the shower. Its the ONLY lotion that has made his ecxema go away.

When my youngest was younger(he's almost 3 now) he had it really bad. He had an infected patch on his arm for months so we had to use a prescription cream. His dr. also recommended bathing every other day. When he gets out I only pat dry and used Extra dry skin Lubriderm lotion. It worked and I still lotion him up with the lubriderm right after a bath and he hasn't gotten any outbreaks.

I recommend and use Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream with Pooh and Piglet on the bottle. I got it at walmart.  I slather dd from neck to feet, but on her face, I use Aquaphor because when she rubs lotions in her eyes it's not a pretty sight.  Aquaphor will not irritate the eyes.

ohh..poor baby, i hope all this works for him...the docs say that the best way to keep flare ups at bay is to "wet and seal" ie, give a bath and then immediately apply lotion, which seals in the moisture.

Ok another Question to all who replied to this post, Do ur kids have asthama too?..My DS has it and the Doc says they both go hand in hand.

i recommended Shea Butter to a couple moms i know with kids who have moderate eczema. both moms said it really helps. there is usually an underlying allergy when eczema comes about though. good luck! Good Luck Clover

My doctor recommends Crisco but I haven't used it.  I use the Gentle Naturals Eczema cream.  DS2 (and DH) have pretty bad eczema.  DS also has bad allergies but no asthma yet.  I am sure that it's coming, though, since the poor little guy just finished with a bought of strep and his tonsils are still huge.  He has such a hard time breathing.
