well we are about to get pounded again from storms.  There are 5 tornados in MN right now.  So when you get them tomorrow i hope they arent as bad

Early Early Sat morning the storms hit and they were terrible! (we live in the country so it doesn't take much to make our power go out.) I have to say though, my in-laws live in MN 6 months out of the year and the storms we get don't even compare to the storms you and they get! I hope they're done for awhile!

Re: Those with a digital pH tester please stop here!

Have we figured out why some people are able to get the the results from the strips w/in the recommended time from the manufcturer MATCHING w/ their digital tester results?  Maybe it is the brand of tester?  I'd really like to understand....as looking through the posts in this thread it looks like very split results!!  Just as many are finding this as the women who've found the results on their strips don't match until 15min later!  Thanks!

P.S.  Hope you are all storm - free. :)

HANNA HI 98103 pH Tester, Meter, Checker 1, HI98103

This is the one I have. it came with either the 7.0  or 4.0 calibration solution (I don't remember which one) then the other I ordered from let'sdowine.com(I get my universal strips from this site.) You need both the solutions to calibrate it which is very very easy.

I got my HI 99104 today,  a weekly calibration is recommended which I need to immerse  the mete in ph7 buffer. I got only one pakage of Buffer solution, do I need to reuse this solution every time that I caliborating or need to get a new buffer solution each time? If so where can get ph7 buffer solution?

I think that you need to use a new solution each time.  You should be able to get solution from where you ordered it from.

I ordered my tester from this website and they have the solutions.   http://store.eseasongear.com/caso.html

You need to calibrate everytime, yes?  So how many pouches do you require of the 7 and 4 buffer each time? Do you need both?  Just trying to figure out how much this tester would cost me a month. lol. TIA!!

I don't calibrate mine every time... I'd go through a TON of calibration solution!  I just calibrate it every once in awhile and so far it hasn't been too far off anyway.  I calibrated it yesterday and the the 4 solution was showing about 4.02 on the meter and the 7 solution showed up as I think 7.06 or 7.08, so not even that much difference.  HTH!

THe directions that came with my tester said to calibrate "periodically". I hadn't been calibrating mine every time until I started this experiment (just wanted to make sure there was little margin for error). You do need to use a new solution each time. Also, you do need both the 7.0 and the 4.0 solutions. THe higher solution is for higher ph's and the lower solution is to calibrate it to read lower solutions. So if you're testing both you and DH you would need your tester calibrated for both types of ph.

Letsdowine.com offers both solutions. it's under wine making and equipment. One pouch is $1.95. You specify which solution you want.

what do you think is the biggest difference between the white tester and the red?  Anyone?

I have the White one.  It seems to work pretty well.  It takes the guess work of the strips away!  Anyway, when I bought mine, on ebay, I asked what the difference was because the ebay store had them both.  Basically, the white one is just a newer model so it's like $2 more. HTH

I bought mine from eseasongear. I got the white one and when it arrived, I saw that it needed the buffer solution together with the cleaning and storage solution. Unfortunately easeaongear doesnt have any buffer solution currently in stock so I am buying it from another website called professionalequipment.com which has a pack of 10 ( 5 of 4.01 and 5 of 7.01) for 14.90 so 1.49 each

I got my ph meter with the 7.01 solution.  When I calibrate it to the 7.01 in the solution and then I measure lime juice it reads at 6.85.  Does this happen with anyone else?  I just ordered the 4.01 solution to calibrate it with that to see if it helps.

It will definitely make a difference if you have not calibrated it with the 4.0 souliton. The 7.0 solution is for measuring things with a higher ph and the other soluiton is for things with a lower ph. If you haven't calibrated for both it won't work right.

Thanks.  I feel a lot better.  When I tested my ph and it was so high I was afraid that I was out for ttc this month.  Hopefully the solution will come in before I O so I don't have to skip this month.
