i thought it would be kinda fun to list all the possible countries you can adopt from, and that way people browsing can see there are many more choices than they may have realized!  this came up in a recent post but i thought i would just make it a "sticky" and anyone who knows of another country can feel free to add on!!

Eastern Europe & Central Asia:

Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia.

Southeast Asia & Eastern Asia:

China, Mongolia, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam (until 9/1/08 ), Thailand (older children typically, i believe) & the Phillipines.

Latin American Countries:

Guatemala (temporarily closed, suppose to re-open in 2009), Colombia, Peru, Mexico.

African or Others:

Ethiopia, Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Haiti, India, Pakistan.

United States of America:

and then there's of course domestic adoption, foster care adoption, private adoption, etc!!

I'm curious about adoption in Mexico, Colombia or Guatemala?  Do you know any information about these countries?  Is is too hard?  New to the subject.  We are thinking of doing this in the future.  Maybe.  I would like to adopt a little girl.  

Guatemala is closed right now but suppose to re-open in 2009.  as for Colombia & Mexico, you just have to search the internet for agencies that work in those countries & information on adopting from those countries in general.  i think Mexico is difficult to adopt from, but still possible.  i think it's like a 2yr. process and you have to live in Mexico for a certain amount of time

Colombia is your best bet right now.  i think it's about a 2yr. process for an infant girl and you need to travel to Colombia for about a month when you pick up the child.  you can also join the Adoption Agency Research group to get more info, which is also posted in this forum as a "sticky."
