    merlinmoose:

I've read a lot more posts since deciding today I need High tech, & I'm not as confused - except is PGD legal in Turkey or not?

Why would EU be against 'family balancing'?! It's not like we're all wanting DSs [Tho I amPray]

PGD is only legal in Turkey if you have a heridatry genetic condition in your family which affects one sex but not the other (i.e. hemophilia).

It is NOT legal for family balancing purposes in Turkey, nor in the entire EU. No matter what anyone tells you, or what they may (or may not) be willing to do in Turkey behind closed doors, that's the law as it stands.

As to reasons why the EU has banned PGD for family balancing purposes, it's prejudice, fear and ignorance, in my opinion. It's very illogical, IMO. They claim to have abandoned legal control over our bodies when they legitimized abortion (in essence, the taking of a potential to human life) but they are claiming legal control over our bodies in telling us how we are to conceive (and thus, in essence, create a much wanted life).

Oh that's bad news; I don't think I can afford to go to USAAngry

I wonder if the Turkey clinics demand some kind of proof of medical problems or just take your word for it..!

Russia might be an option for you? It's legal and cheaper than the US.

    Or even Thailand or Malaysia?

I think it's about the same distance as it is to Turkey by air.

The clinic in St Petersburg is connected to a Finnish clinic so there standards should be quite high. Also, it's legal there, which makes all the difference IMO. I think it's the closest LEGAL clinic we can go (for those of us who live in the EU).

But, you do need a visa and everything (incl. street signs, etc.) is in Russian. People don't really speak much English (although I think at the clinic itself, they do). There is a member here (LynetteScavo) who is going to AVA Peter, so you could ask her for more information.

Re: anyone from uk planning PGD?

    Hello

We are looking to do IVF/MS/PGD next summer.  I have a little boy and another boy on the way.  Im confused as whether to go to USA and The Rainsbury Clinic. I like the idea of the Rainsbury as they organise alot of things for you but it is more expensive about £3,000 in total so maybe not that more expensive when you take flights to the USA in consideration.

Also confused about monitoring in england. Do you know what's involved.  Just I know life will be alot busier when my next baby comes along.

Have you thought about what your next step is?

Rainsbury is just a middle-man so you could do without them & save the hefty fee that they charge for being a go-between?

Re: anyone from uk planning PGD?

Just wondering if you have any further thought about the PGD process?  Im from the UK too and we are due to have a telephone conversation very soon for IVF/PGD next summer by the Rainsbury Clinic.  It's a little more than going to USA but less hassle in the long run.  I am due soon with another boy so trying to get everything sorted out before the arrival.  Our main concern is that we want to avoid twins so looking for a single embryo transfer but I know this reduces the chance of pregnancy.

    Hope to hear from you

Re: anyone from uk planning PGD?

    Why don't you contact the Turkey clinics - Jinemed? - direct? Theres also a place in Czechoslovakia which seemed even cheaper, if I can find the link.. Aha;

The  Clinic of   Reproductive  Medicine  and  Gynecology  in  Zlin was  founded  in 2001, Czech  Republic. They do IVF with PGD one treatment for appr 4 300 USD

I only heard of this Czech clinic through another poster so I don't know much about it. There are a lot of posts on here saying the Rainsbury is a rip-off, but if you need a 'middle-man' & don't mind paying extra for that, why not.

Actually, what exactly do the Rainsbury clinic do?! There's a post quoting £13,000 for just 1 cycle with them without travel or accomodation, whereas it'd be about £5,500 to go to Turkey with their 3 week PGD 'package deal' inc hotel but no travel - What are the Rainsbury getting paid to do?! If it's just UK monitoring why not go direct to a hospital?

...you will have to put a 1 in front of that 3...its at least £13,000 for one cycle (without consutlation fee, flights to Cyprus or accomodation)........I think he's very good by all accounts...but he ought to be as he is charging about £8000 to be the middle man...the price of a whole extra cycle elsewhere.  I think if can afford it and want the procedure to be as hassle free as possible Paul Rainsbury is your man!But for the likes of me who will be doing this whole thing on a wing and a prayer..I will have to search for the cheaper alternative! lol!

Outrageous!! Even if I could afford to pay him I wouldn't like to

I don't know if the Czech Clinic does do it for family balancing - They do in Russia? & is Czechoslovakia near there or is it counted as being in Europe these days?! - My geography isn't good, I've only just found out where Turkey is..
