Unfortunately E isn't a guarantee (neither is ms). They claim (I dont know about this clinic just over all E ttc a boy stats) 85-90% success.  Which means out of 100 women ttc a boy 10-15 will get an opposite.  If you do E for a boy you need to do the diet and supplements so really increase your odds.  But even then it isn't 100%

Re: PGD? Ericsson? Question about these methods

the website for ericsson is childselect.com, like red said it's not guaranteed but seems to favor boys.  I know of 2 people who got boys from it and will be posting what we get later this fall(I hope).  Have your friend look into it but if she's considering it, I think she should do the supps and diet too.

Re: PGD? Ericsson? Question about these methods

I did an IVF/microsort/PGD cycle for a little less than $20,000, including meds.

I know microsort is $3400 plus the cost of IUI (not too much but I'm not sure exactly)

Erricson, like pp have said, is significantly cheaper.  But the success rate is much lower than MS--I think Erricson is kind of like swaying, it might help, but don't do it if you can't handle an opposite.
