    Cord blood banking

Who has done this? Its seems like there are many benefits from doing this. Im just wondering how do you go about doing this, does every hospital have to do this if you request it or do only certain hospitals cooperate? And also, how much does this cost? TIA

    Re: Cord blood banking

Every company/country has different pricing plans...even payment options.  We didn't do it the first two times but we're doing it this time, since siblings can use it too.  The things they can do now with cord blood is amazing, imagine what they'll be capable in 20 years.

I got a couple of different pamphlets home in my baby bag from my first Drs appointment and I see ads all the time in baby magazines.  You should be able to track it down fairly easy.

    Hi,

I did this wi my latest baby but i'm in the uk so it may be different here but they put it into a national cord blood bank for others and myself if heaven forbid we had to use it .... It cost me nothing to do and i think it's a very worthwhile thing to do ..... xxxx

I used cryo-cell http://www.cryo-cell.com/ when my now 6 year old was born.  At that time it cost $275 for the collection kit which I gave to my midwife and it costs me $50 a year for storage, which is locked in at that price.  I think now the kit is about $1600 with $125 yearly storage fee.  I'm happy with this company and would use it again whenever I ever get pregnant.

you can choose to donate it too. instead of paying to have it saved for yourself. i really wanted to donate mine... but pregnancy brain got the better of me and i totally forgot to ask.

does anyone else think it is weird that dr and nurses never bring this up??? with both DS and DD i keep expecting to be asked... but never was? and DD was born at a major metropolitan hospital no less???
