Today is the first World Autism Awareness Day

April 2 has been designated as World Autism Awareness Day by the General Assembly of the United Nations, and will be observed yearly as from this year.   In the US, 1 in 150 children are affected by autism.  More information about World Autism Awareness Day is at autismspeaks.org.

Thank you Maureen for posting this!  I have an autistic son with PDD-NOS.(Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified).  He's a sweet loving little boy despite all of his challenges.  I wouldn't trade him for the world!

My eldest son has mild to moderate ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder). I always knew there was something different going on in that brainbox of his and finally got his diagnosis when he was 5. His biggest challenge is school but he has extra help now which we're hoping will help him access the cirriculum more easily. He seems to be responding to this well which is great and a real relief!

That aside he is a gorgeous little boy with a wonderful personality. We are all very proud of him!
