Olivia Marie's Birth Story
At 2 am on Sunday, August 5, 2012 I
awoke with painful contractions that were "toe curling" to say the
least! I knew I was in labour. That night we decided to let the kids
have a "slumber party" in the living roopm with air mattresses and kids
everywhere. So when I rolled over to wake Michael (dh) up he was laying
on the couch with Alex (our 6 YO). I went to tell him I thought I was
in labour and that I just wanted to wait - until they progressed as I
was having braxton hicks contractions off and on for weeks. After an
hour they were every ten minutes and strong and hard with 2 little small
barable contractions in between. By 3:30 am I was done.. I wanted
nothing more so I called the on call dr. which was one that doesn't
deliver babies then called Labour and Delivery. They said to not come
in too soon and when they were 4-5 minutes apart to come in. I knew I
had tested positive for Group B strep and that I go fast (this was my
4th baby) so I knew it would go fast. I went and had a shower, timed
my contractions and they started about every 5-7 minutes.. I was done. I
got dh to call my dad to come watch the older kids and we were headed
off. The drive to the hospital is about 1/2 hour- 45 minutes but at 3
/3:30 am its 20 minutes with no traffic. Arrived at the hospital at
3:30 am/4 am and I was 3.5 -4 cm and she said they were admitting me and
I could get my epidural. I was happy as previous births it took too
long. Got my epi.. which is a Godsent IMO. My mom arrived and they
wanted to wait the 4 hours before interfering or assisting so I got the 4
hour penicillin for the Group B. At 8:45 am they would check me -
break my water and go from there. There was some discrepancy as my dr
was on holidays and who was going to deliver... they just did the oncall
dr. 9 am/9:10 am they came in checked I was 6 cm. Broke my water I
went from 6-9 cm.
At 9:33 am Olivia Marie was born. She was
sunnyside up and they turned her and she weighs 7 pounds, 7 ounces and
was 19.25 inches long, born August 5, 2012.
I think I am going to enjoy my family and take some time off ingender for a while. Thanks to everyone - especially Tamara who answered many questions and helped me with my swaying information!
We are doing
well. We got sent home today.. she is a super breastfeeding eater -
every 1.5 hours and a good set of lungs on her to keep up with her
brothers.. mama is a bit sleep deprived but doing well.
