try not to panic. i was went in for my 20 weeks scan and was immediantly rushed to labor and delivery. i was dialated to 1cm and u/s showed funneling and a very short cervix.. only about 2 or 3 mm. my local hospital was not set up to care for me. so i was rushed to a hospital with a nicu and kept in bedrest for weeks and weeks. i was told to try to make it to 28 weeks but prepare for a micropreemie. he would most likly face a lifetime of challeges if he even survived. i was so scared.
i was pumped full of drugs. i dialted to 4cm very quickly, 100% effaced, i failed some early labor tests which made the docs think i would deliver anyday now. i waited and waited on bedrest and meds. he was born 8lbs 2oz at 37 weeks and 1 day. full term. nothing is wrong with them.. well except he won't sleep at night.
not saying this happens to everyone and yes i agree its better to be safe them sorry. but the stress and the tears do more damage then we realise. try to stay calm and think positive. good luck ladies with preterm labor!
