My first was a long labour, my second was very fast and easy.

Not really true for me.

DS1- water broke, no labor, induction all day, no dilation, baby in distress, emergency c-section.

DS2- VBAC after 38 hours of labor, planned to be at home, ended up in hospital.

DS3- easy-peasy! 7 hours labor, laughing between contractions even in transition, 7 minutes pushing.

I've been induced for all 4 of mine. First two were 6 hours, next two were 4.5 hours. DS2 was smoothest...hardest was *drum roll* DD, but she was sunny side up.

you think that's a nightmare.... I had severe pre eclampsia and hello syndrome with my dd. Was on magnesium sulfate for 48 hours among other drufa. My bp was 210/115 kidneys were failing and had an emergency cartoon while puking my guts out. Then I was in the icu for my days while my Baby was discharged... Worst experience of my life. So my sons birth wa the easier of the two

DS1: 23 Hours of Labor, and 58 min of pushing

DS2: 21 Hours of Labor, 8 minutes of pushing

DD1: Induced, 8 hours active labor and no pushing lol Just flew out!

DS3: 9 Hours labor and No pushing, he flew too :)

DD2: 6 Hours of labor and 10 minutes of pushing.

So, my first two (boys) were long labors and my 3rd son was easy peasy. So kind of true for me.

DS#1: 10 hr labor, 1 hr pushing. Augmented with pitocin. He was sunny-side up and OB had to use vacuum & do an episiotomy.

DS#2: 18 hr labor, 30 min pushing. Full induction 5 days early. Had back labor with him. My OB actually apologized to me for it taking 8 hrs longer than my 1st. LOL

DS#3: Have yet to see. ;o) Hopefully he just "falls" out like I hear so often of 3rd babies in general. He will be my 1st homebirth natural baby.

I wouldn't describe either labor as especially hard. 2nd was longer because my body just wasn't ready and the contractions were worse because of all the pitocin. I don't have any completely natural labors because both were in the hospital.

I will add though that when I told my midwife that both of my boys were in "fetal distress" at the end of my labors, esp during pushing, that she said boys are more "fragile" during labor and are more likely than girls to go into fetal distress. I still attribute it to the pitocin putting that stress on them, but I thought this was very interesting.

Baby Boy 12.11.05 Baby Boy 6.5.09 Baby Boy 11.18.12, already pre-planning for #4 and hoping for Baby Girl

Meh even though My DS was longer I dont really agree....

DS 14 hours, text book labour, spontaneous waters ruture at 38 weeks, no pain relief, no complications. perfect, couldn't belive my jammy luck!

DD 3 hours, fast, furious, no pain relief but wish I had as she was back to back and had to be turned in labour. I had tearing of the likes that should not exist! No fun...38 weeks and 5 days.

So although she was shorter her labour was hideous compared due to the pain I was in and she had the longer gestation...

My mum was the oposite:

I was 16 hrs

My brother was 4 hours...

I think first babies are always longer...
