Hi I am pregnant with my third baby and I would really like to breastfeed but I'm very worried I'm going to fail again ;( with my first born I my breast did engorge And feel Rock hard but I only fed him for 6 days because I had post natal depression . With my second baby she would not get off the boob and it was like she was pulling and getting cranky like there was nothing there I was on motillium tablets to increase my supply and I do remember pumping and I got 30mls out of EACH breast but it seemed it took along time for me to fill back up.. I put her on a bottle the 2nd night I kept putting her to the breast but I always had to give her a bottle every feed she ended up not taking the breast anymore at about 4 weeks because she wanted the bottle more ;( I went and seen a lactation consultant a week ago because I'm sure I have this condition called hypoplastic breast the lactation consultant said my breast do resemble that condition . But she has some hope for me because I can produce milk and she can feel that I do have some glands in each breast. She said u might have to supplement though. I really hope I don't have too supplement but if I do have to how can I make my baby stay breastfeeding aswell as bottle feeding I'm scared this baby will just want the bottle too ;( also I am going to be on motillium again I'm going to start taking it straight away at the hospital. Does anyone have the same condition? It would be great to hear one story of where a mum successfully breastfeed her baby with this condition. ? I do not want to do the sns so please don't suggest it I have no time to fiddle around with it because I have 2 other children. But any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated :-)

Hearts Hi I dont have this condition but wanted to respond to you. With your first pregnancy and baby you have said you become engorged, so that can be a good thing.......sorry you had to stop breastfeeding due to pnd and then with your second baby wanting the bottle more.

I know of a lady who did have this condition and similar she had tried everything with trying to increase her supply she tried medication (domperidone), fenugreek, also the sns (without liking it also), in the end she also went to a specialist who works with hormones and he prescribed some hormones thinking she may have lacked the right hormone to release the milk therefore she couldnt produce more. The lady breastfed with supplementation for 6mths

The other thing i wanted to say is some professionals get so caught up on numbers on the scales, if the baby is gaining some, has wet 6-8 wet nappies, poos, is not flacid and is waking for feeds and appears happy this has got to be good right? I mean obviously within reason we dont want baby to be hungry and not thrive also.

The other thing is I believe your birth circumstances can delay the onset of lactation also, so it may not mean you cannot produce milk but it might be delayed.

Here is a thread that has had some response to your question previously. I really hope it all works out okay for you and that you can use this forum for support when you feel you need it.
