Shipping Frozen Microsort Sperm To US For IVF/PGD- New Updates

So, I have definitely been getting conflicting infor regarding using frozen MS sperm for IVF/PGD.. not IUI.   For me personally, I wasnt willing to go to Mexico to have the whole procedure done.  BUT, I recently was told that they would now freeze and ship sperm to your clinic.  So, Dh would go, leave sample, and it would then be sorted, frozen and shipped to your clinic in the US.  

So, I get in contact with Microsort in the US-  They tell me that they cant give me an answer and will be in touch in 2 weeks with a more definitive answer. Was told it was a US customs issue.  Hmmm kind of not holding my breath from what I have heard.

Next, get in touch with Microsort in Guadalaraja -  They tell me YES, it can be done.   When I question a bit more, a bit more prying and digging, I get told that Microsort cant ship sample BUT they can ship from a different address.  So possibly, the affiliated lab and not Microsort.  I really dont know.

Next attempt, get in touch with MS in Mexico City-  Flat out NO response from them.  Although it did say "at this moment, we are not allowed"

I think something is in the works regarding this.. plus I did ask about shipping the sample to the US about 6 months ago and I always was told NO.  And, now there seems to be a slight opening in the door.    Who knows though.

I think that the Guadalararja location found a loophole and possibly be able to get around the restrictions but I dont know!!  

Also.. when I contacted Dr. Potters office regarding this -   whoa.. very very abrupt about it!   It was basically they dont want anything to do with MS- and if one pursues it, its completely on your end- and Dr. Potter is not a fan of it at all.  Are they disconnecting themselves from MS b/c of legal issues/FDA .  Possibly

We did Microsort in Mexico city several times with no success before doing an IVF/PGD cycle back home.  Believe me, if there was a way I could have smuggled in a sorted sample to use for my IVF, I would have done it.  But its pretty much impossible.

My DH would fly in the night before, go to Microsort 7 am, pick up sample by 1 pm. Fly back home and even if he went straight to the fertility clinic it would be 7 pm or so before they could use it (so I'd have to have ER done sometime late afternoon???) Even if that could be done, DH would have to figure out a way to get his sample on the plane (strapped to his body so not to get too cold)...almost impossible with airport security.  A frozen sample is even more of a nightmare because of US customs.  Not sure how to get a compressed container of nitrogen onto carry-on luggage!

 I am surprised that Microsort USA has not chosen to go "off label" and still offer its service without FDA approval. Ericcson is not FDA approved and neither is GSN or CGH as far as I know. 

Dr Potter warned us that without using Microsort, there was a 25% chance of No Transfer with regular IVF/PGD and unfortunately we experienced this first hand.  Thousands of dollars wasted for nothing!  I can't believe Dr Potter would be so down on Microsort when he insisted it was the best way to ensure having a transfer of the desired sex.  Maybe he no longer believes in Microsort because he can no longer make a profit on it?? 

 I was told the Micorosort would get back in touch with me in 2 weeks, that will be this Monday, although I really doubt they will have any answers.  

Guadalaraja said they will ship the sample to your clinic.  I really dont know if I should move foward with this or not

They had mentioned something of the sort to me too.  Maybe one of the IVF clinics across the hall would then send it and less questions would be asked probably because cryo-frozen eggs are sent no problem.  Should be able to send sperm...Or a sperm donor agency in the area could be the middleman.  There is Dr. Ruvulcaba near there and also the doctor I went to at Instituto Vida and his name is Dr. Perez Luna, just a wonderful guy. I highly recommend their work ethic, very nice clinic, everyone down to the embryologist was so sweet.  I did IVF/MS at his clinic and am now 6 weeks pregnant with a 95% girl sort.  I'll know gender for sure in a month..Good luck to you!

How long did you need to be in mexico for the IVF?  You didn't do the PGD this time?

Hey!  I sure hope so...I'll be doing CVS in a month so I'll know for sure then.  I ended up doing my monitoring the second time locally and then went there the day before the transfer.  I was there for 9 days.  It was a hard choice but I decided with a 95% sort for MS and knowing this would be my last chance at IVF that I didn't want to mess with the embryo's anymore than I should.  I didn't want to not fall pregnant and wonder if it was because of the PGD taking a cell and would it have worked if I left it alone?  I only had 3 embryo's and really wanted to wait until day 5 over day 3.  I was super lucky to have 2 of the 3 make it to day 5.  They usually want you to have 5 embryo's to wait till day 5 because only 2 or 3 will make it.  I definitely wish I had a 100% guarantee but I think I made the right choice. Does that make sense..one of the many hard choices on this journey.  I asked myself at so many stages..what should I do?!?!
