I wonder does anyone believe, especially those christian, that true sincere prayer to St. Mary and Jesus can give a specific gender, even if as a couple you are prone to let's say just boys, or just girls, and this is neturally defined?

Baby Bear Boy2008, Baby Bear Boy 2010, Baby Bear Boy 2012 ... i love my boys, but is this the end of the road for me, or would i try again for a mother-daughter dream to come true?

As much as you want to plan your life, it has a way of surprising you with unexpected things, that will make you happier, that you originally planned.  That's what you call "God's will"  (unknown author)

In August of 2010 I started a 54 day Rosary Novena to Our Lady. I finished it on October 24th. My daughter was concieved exactly 6 months later. I found out I was pregnant that Mothers day. (May 8th 2011) I know that Novena was te reason I have my daughter.

No. I am of strong Christian faith and to believe that if we pray hard enough God will give us what we want is saying that someone who doesn't get that boy or girl they wanted was because they didn't pray hard enough or worship strongly enough. I agree with the previous poster that God gives us what we need and in my opinion, what we are fated to have for whatever reason that we may not sometimes understand. I believe we were meant to experience individual trials or challenges in this life (some more or less than others) and it's all how we deal with them that defines us.

I don't believe God cares about the gender of a child.  I believe he gives us a tiny new soul to love and nurture.  I believe that desire is a human response and something that we have to overcome in our own nature.  I believe that having desires and wants is a perfectly natural, human thing.  I just don't think God chooses gender to give us what we want or to punish us for being selfish.  I believe he gives us the soul and biology chooses the gender.

I absolutely 100% agree...when I was a child my parents didn't give me everything I wanted, no matter how much I thought I needed it and I didn't understand at the time...now I do! When it comes to GD I think the only thing you can really ask god for is a healing of your want of a certain gender, if you see what I mean! Thing is, like any sway, its generally 50/50 results so you'll probably get as many people with my point of view as you will with the opposite, in fact, had I been pg with a girl this time, I'd probably be one of them lol!

I'm a Catholic and I don't believe that praying will give you a certain gender. God hears our prayers but he doesn't always say yes. I believe he sends us a child, and that is a blessing. I know I was so disappointed to know I was having DS2 at the time, but I know today that he is truly a joy and blessing to me and that God knew what was best for me and my family even though it didn't seem  like that to me at the time.

I wanted to say that something that I always think of is "just because God doesnt give you want you want doesnt mean you dont deserve it - just means you deserve better.  Obviously any gener is not a punishment- but what I thin k of when I think the above phrase- IS... we often get something we dont think we want - but it is still ablessing and God has a plan for us!  This is what I beleieve.

A bit of history with me.. I have 3 boys- prayed so hard for a dd, never got one.  Until I realized how blessed and fortunate I was and accepted that I was having boys- was when I belieev God blessed me witha daughter.  I also stopped praying ofr a duaghter and prayed to God for God to give me what they felt I should have.

The best answer so far. It does not matter what religion you follow and the way you pray. These are our own creations and choices. God has already done a lot for us. He 'designed' man and woman. Now it is game of chance and what you choose to do with it. Your decisions lead to one of many permutation and combinations. God doesn't have any role in that. Birth of a baby is itself greatest miracle. What else do you want?

That is what i was opening in one of my previous posts, quite a few time ago: "do you believe god sends us only souls, or also gender?"....and i got one interesting answer that was, that the gender is so closly connected to the soul, and so much defines us....

so i dont know..... i do not "want more", i just wonder if praying to Jesus and St. Mary, who are earth connections to allmighty God, can may be do this miracle, as miracles do happen, not always, but sometimes they are the answer to the prayer, for a certain reason. that does not mean, if you pray hard enough you will get what you desire. It does not depend on how hard you pray, but i am sure the prayer isn't in vain, even if the prayer isnt answer, God knows why....but i have heard and read too much of testimonies of possibility of God answering a prayer for something that has natural obstacles (like infertility or something), so i believe God DOES interfere in sometimes, but ofcourse not always, even not often, and it surely has to be for certain reason for that soul that the prayer has been answered, that is my belief.

For example you can read this testimony(of a woman, doctor, who was stricked by weather condition, and she didnt die because of a single prayer said sincerely from the heart, and for a reason chosen by God) by: http://gloriapolo.neuevangelisierung.org/indexeng.html

I am not saying God would do such a miracle in just "everyday gender determination", but if he had a good reason (from his perspective of course, not ours), he would be able to do it.

An entire church prayed non stop that my father wouldn't be taken from us when he was only 30 years old - non stop prayers including prayers by him and my mum for healing and survival and yet he didn't survive. I believe you can can find the answer you want to hear if you look for it but the doesn't make it the truth. There is no explanation that says why some people get "answered prayers" and some don't and no, God certainly wasn't giving any of us what we needed when we lost my father but that is life and that's what happens. 70% of people that get the cancer my dad had, survive it so some where along the lines there was probably a whole church praying for another young father and he survived. If you want to believe that it will work for you then maybe it will, in this day and age of - I want it = I get it, I believe people will convince themselves that they are in control of the uncontrollable but it boils down to the flip of a coin and making the most of the life we have, enjoying what we have and thanking God for the things we have not the things we don't.

Yes i understand your post Ruby_red. I am just saying that miracles do happen ( i dont know if in gender determination), but ofcourse i do not know the reason, and certenly they do not happen because of the QUANTITY of the prayers.

But are they miracles or would they have happened anyway? A bit like the swaying when people say they've had a successful sway because they've taken all the supplements, done things a certain way etc is it a successful sway or would it have happened anyway? Sorry, I know I sound awfully pessimistic lol! I just seem to see so many people around me (in real life) that just get life handed to them on a plate, I see others that strive really hard for It and get it and then others that strive for it and still don't get it and recently it's really made me reevaluate the fact that all my life I have seen this as works of god, or good fortune or positive thinking etc and I just don't see it that way anymore. I guess a couple of things have happened this year that have just made me think you get what you get, end of story and I'll try and make the most of it. I kind've wish I had of thought like this for more of my life rather than thinking if I was a good enough girl, if I grew into a good woman, if I followed the rules and did as I was told then maybe my dreams would come true. They haven't (not just talking about GD here) and I regret being such a rule-follower and not grabbing life with 2 hands and letting it take me where it will. I feel like I've wasted time believing something tha was never going to be the case for me. Sorry, that sounds really dismal, just wish I knew then what I know now!

No. I don't believe in religion anyway, but if there was a God, I don't think answering prayers about gender would be her priority, because gender desire is a human want. Gender isn't that important.

I believe that God always answers prayers, but not always how we want or feel we need or even how we can possible understand. In the Novena I did, the promise was that the prayer would be answered *IF* it was campatable with the Fathers Will. I did pray for a girl with my DS3, and am now very grateful that God did answer that with a yes. He didn't say "No" He said " I have something else in mind." Before WW2 Mary appeared to 3 children and said "God never promised us happiness in this world...only in the next.". Yes my prayers for a little girl were answered with a yes, however my marriage right now is very broken. So do I have reason to be unhappy? I think so...but do I still believe God is in control and will bring good out of my husbands affairs? Absolutely. God gives us free will, and with his free will my husband made big mistakes, but God can and will bring good out of it, I just have to Trust. My big life dream is different now. But not gone.
