Question though, how did they know your son had triploidy and when did they find out?

Thanks everyone L&B Thankyou very much for your message, I'm hoping this is the "worst" this feeling will get- because as the pregnancy progresses, baby will develop more, and I'll at least know SOMETHING. It's the waiting until then that's really getting to me. I'm down to 1 week and 6 days until the scan, and I'm going for my down's syndrome blood test today, so I'm going to request that they also send me a copy of the results as soon as they come in (so I don't have to drive my obstetrician insane!), because I think the results of that will tell me a lot- with the triploidy in particular, the free beta-hcg is meant to be really increased, and I think the Papp-A is meant to be decreased- can't tell that I've been driving myself crazy with reading can you!? I just hate hate HATE sitting here thinking "I'm going to feel ok because STATISTICALLY, triploidy is so unlikely to happen again". It makes me feel really ashamed to think like that this current child's life is resting on an assumption like that- I think that's why I'm so desperate to read about it, and to get these blood tests etc- so I have cold hard FACTS, instead of just sitting here assuming that everything will be fine. Driving me nuts....!

Hi my4lovebugs, sorry I didn't see your question. They didn't pick up the triploidy until the 20 week morphology scan- at that point they noticed the cystic placenta (which is one of the main things I'm worried about when I had the 12 week scan for the same bub- they didn't pick up the triploidy- but I'm sure I can see holes in that video) He also had a problem with the right kidney, he had an echogenic bowel, the CST of the brain was missing (corticospinal tract), and the corpus callosum was also missing (the mid section of the brain that connects the right and left hemispheres) The problem was, from what I've read, triploidy CAN (but doesn't always) result in many physical deformations, not just in the internal organs- so I'm guessing that's why some cases are picked up at the 12 week scan, and it's the reason why mine wasn't- because apart from the major internal problems, he physically looked like a beautiful healthy kid, even when he was born. Just hoping and praying it doesn't repeat, I know the "odds' are stacked in my favour, but it does nothing to make me feel better- I can't wait for this scan and the blood test results xxo

yeah I can't imagine going through something like that, and then falling pregnant again and not being worried. I've had normal healthy pregnancies and I still worry! I can't imagine your position. Pray about it. Pray for your baby. That always helps me to relax and not worry so much.

Hi everyone, a quick update: Obviously we're not "out of the woods" yet, but I got my maternal serum test results back the other day (from the blood test for my NT scan at 12 weeks), and everything looks really normal. Last time, with the Triploidy, my free beta hcg was 2.97 MoM (Multiple of the Median), which is very high- the average should be around 1.06- this time around, it's roughly 1.33 MoM, so very normal there. More importantly, the Papp-A (pregnancy associated plasma protein A- released by the placenta and a very important marker for looking for chromosomal abnormalities) is about 1.1, again the average is 1.00 MoM. Last time it was very low- 0.65 And a low Papp-A is associated with Down's/other chromosomal abnormalities, so this time it's nice and high. So again, I don't feel 100% OK, luckily I'm only 7 days away from my 12 week scan, but so far everything is looking OK.. The countdown is on...

Thanks!! Will update as soon as my scan's done. Also, I did the red cabbage test and got an extremely purple result... Could it be!!?? A girl, after 4 BOYS!!??? I think I might faint if I'm told for sure.... lol
