Tamara... 2 colors on ph strips?

Hi Tamara,

I have been talking with many moms on here about ph strips (such a big topic on here huh?! :)  So, as we were talking about our ph results, the question came up about the 2 colors on the strips... the top and bottom.  Is the top or bottom color more accurate?  When I have tested, my colors never match up just right--top and bottom-- to any of the ph levels on the chart.  And when I tested replens right on the strip, the bottom color was bright-bright yellow (the lowest ph on my chart), while the top color was still not the lowest ph color...based on looking at the chart/comparing the colors... which is strange because replens is supposed to have a ph of 2 or so, right?

I would love to know which color we should be looking at and why there are 2 colors anyway!? ;)

Booey- hi and first good luck with your sway! on the Ph strips it will be what you are seeing as the "first" color to be your guide. The reason for this is because it will be the most saturated. As the moisture absorbs on the strip it will, in effect, not be as accurate. I hope that makes sense!!

I have the strips Booey is talking about that have the two papers pasted on a plastic strip.  I rub cm on them instead of submerging them so the colors change at the same time.  But I also have pH paper that came on a roll and you tear off a piece each time.  I think that is more what BabyBlue is talking about where the bottom of the stip has a darker color than the top as the bottom gets more saturated.  On those it is definitely the darkest color on the bottom but what about the two paper on a plastic strip kind?

it depends on if your are more alkaline or acidic.

always get a universal test strip to compair it to so you can know which color to go by

So the ph strips I have say wide range super sensative... they are PH Inex...one of the brands that is recommended on here I believe...

Which ones are universal?  How would we know if we are more acidic or alkaline?

universal are orange and say.. univerals pH paper.  These paper will tell you if you are acidic or alkaline then you will know what squaire to read
