I am a 27 year old mother of one six year old son and now another on the way. I really did not want anymore kids but am now thinking about swaying for a girl in a couple of years or paying for PGD. It is just so expensive;( I find myself thinking about how I am going to get my girl in the future instead of thinking about what this current child will look like or normal things pregnant women think about. I feel so guilty but I am not happy at all. Ugh anyone else in this type of situation?

once your baby is here you will feel so much better and when he gets a little older and you can watch that brotherly bond and your boys play together. omg he wil have a buddy for life. what a wonderful gift.

we had the same issue, but we wanted a boy after 7 girls. i really wanted pgd but you are correct its so expensive and most of the time it doesn't work the first cycle. i heard on average it takes about 4 cycles. sure there are some ladies it worked the first time for but its rare. you have to think about how many cycles you are willing to do. what are you going to do with your leftover embryos? you wil probably have a few healthy boys, you can destroy them or donate them. find out what the doctors version of a successful cycle is. i believe there is a higher risk for miscarriage with pgd/ivf. alot of places will give you a discount for 2nd or 3rd cycles but if you miscarry 8 weeks in find out if that counts.

we decided to look into adoption. not for everyone. but really it costs about the same and 3 or 4 rounds of ht. there are cheaper places. foster to adopt or some places are non-profit but you still have to pay for doctors and birth certificates and air fare suff like that. don't make any decisions right away. enjoy your son first. in a few years if you still feel like this take a vacation with your saved up money. i did, i totally relaxed and i loved my big family full of girls... its a boy now! ironic how that happens sometimes. good luck.

Just wanted to pop by Lala and say I don't think it's an unhealthy thing to be thinking about how you will have a girl next time - I'm pg with DS2 at the moment too and do spend time looking into my options (either swaying or more extreme measures) so that I figure once I have some sort of 'action plan' together, everything about this pregnancy will become more enjoyable. I often find myself thinking "Hurry up July, so I can bake another!" although DH and I have decided to wait a few years before going for our third and final.

For me, researching more has given me a sense of control over things, and a sense of what to aim for in the future. If you wait another 6 years for example, who knows what will be available to us all then? There may be new high-tech options even.

Sounds material but have you started shopping yet? I'm finding gathering bits together than are slightly different (we're going for greens instead of blues this time!) is helping on a more frivolous level (excuse spelling!)

That actually sounds like a good idea! Thinking of blue all over again just made by stomach hurt LOL. My fiance and I have decided to def go the PGD/IVF route for sure! I am super stoked! We will most likely do that when this little guy is a year or two old. Green is also a good boy color! Anything but BLUE! HAHA
