Shettles mentioned on The Doctors

Hi,

As I'm experiencing GD over boy #2, oddly, the Shettles method was mentioned on the show The Doctors today and by my OB yesterday. For me anyway, it has proven true because my two boys were conceived within 48 hrs of ovulation. I really wanted to try Shetlles the second time, but long story short, it didn't happen and I'm very bitter about that.

Now a lot of people here say that Shettles doesn't work, but I just think it does have an impact. Who agrees?

Here's the excerpt for the Doctors web site?

Sex Positions
Do sex positions determine sex selection? Joana, 36, has three daughters and wants to conceive a baby boy. She asks OB/GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson if any sexual positions or timing of intercourse can assist in the conception of one sex over the other.

The concept of sexual positions and timing of intercourse in relation to the gender of offspring is known as The Shettles Method, named after OB/GYN Dr. Landrum Shettles.

“It’s the daddy that actually decides the sex,” Dr. Lisa says. “[The] mom can only contribute the X [chromosome], whereas the dad can contribute X and Y [chromosomes].”

The Y (male) chromosome-bearing sperm will move faster, but only live for about two days, while the X (female) chromosome-bearing sperm will move slower, but have a longer life span.

Settles worked for me. DS1,3 were right before O. (DS2 uncertain) and DD was 4-5 days before O.

I don't place all that much faith in the Shettles method. My ds#3 was a shettles opposite. Since I had him, I have researched gender swaying quite a lot, and from what I can see, 0+12 has a much better success rate for concieving a girl. I have read about sooo many shettles opposites aswell......

Thanks. That makes me feel a bit better. I don't know doctors still mention Shettles tho. My OB also did. Maybe they're just ignorant on the topic.

I really think timing is the least important factor- I have conceived a boy on day 5 of my cycle! and a boy two days before ovulation. There are so many shettles opposites on this site if you have a search throuogh the sway attempts too so please don't kick yourself. I also don't think the man really does determine the sex - there are millions of sperm and they can't all be one gender, it's the egg that attracts either a negatively charged Y sperm or a positively charged X sperm...unless i am misunderstandingh what I have read in FAQ, Anyone?

It's just so hard to know., Boys run in my family big time too - maybe I'm just "madeE that way that my eggs attract Y sperm or ar emost hospitable to it... But thanks for the info on Shettles.

I do believe that timing plays a role, only because if you dtd at 0+12, your ph is naturally dropping at this point, and in turn is more appealing to the x sperm. So I think timing does play a part, when using 0+12 to concieve...

After I gave birth to DS#3, I swore that if Dr. Shettles weren't already dead, well...let's just say that he would be. Surprise I followed everything he said to have a girl...and got a boy. I wouldn't trade him for absolutely ANYTHING now, but I won't lie, at the time I definitely suffered from GD.

This time around, we're following the O+12 method and doing the girl diet along with the supplements, etc. I know it's not a guarantee, but it's definitely different than what we did last time and it's actually more to tilt the scales in a girl's favor, but one thing I know for certain is that I make pretty little boys, so either way, I'm okay! I just want a sweet little baby. Hearts

And just to be sure, this time we won't find out what sex the baby is until they put him or her on my chest!

Cloud-dragon- no the female does not determine gender. Do they "attract" certain sperm or do certain sperm live better in certain environments? Probably. Makes sense, but the man is the only one who carries both male and female chromosomes and only when combined with the x egg does gender become determined. There's no real certain way to know if swaying is true but a lot of evidence supports it, more than shettles method. But as far as actually creating a male of female child relies on the man.

I'm not a believer in Shettles, I think it's a little outdated. There are so many people on here who it was opposite for too.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the 'Doctors', they've given so much misinformation on important subjects like breastfeeding and circumcision, crazy!
