I had my anatomy U/S at exactly 20wks pregnant, the baby was being very awkward and i was asked to move onto my side and then back, then onto my other side etc so th e sonographer could get all the appropriate measurements, she didnt look for the gender until she had everything she needed, then brought my husband in to see the baby and tell us the gender. She seemed very reluctant to tell us and asked several times if we were positive we wanted to know. Anyway, she tried to have a look between the legs but babys legs were closed, not crossed but you couldnt see inbetween them..........anyway she moved further back to try and look from almost behind and up to see if there was anything dangling i suppose, and still couldnt see, so she then moved round to the front of the baby, asked again if we were sure, (babys legs were still closed and sort of pulled up a it) she then pointed out what she said was the gender and said there was mistake. But im not convinced, i didnt see anything that resembled either gender really. So my question is, is it possible to determine gender from the front? Unfortunately i dont have any pics of that part of the scan. I am going for a private 3d scan just so i can see the baby again but thats not for almost 10weeks......I will ask at that scan too what that sonographer thinks but i just need to know if my last scan could have been right? Any help much appreciated

Does she know you already have 4 boys? It's strange that she kept asking if you definately want to know? Did she say how sure she was it was the sex she said? With ds2 the sonographer couldn't tell that well as he had the umbilical cord in the same place and she told me boy but said it was only around 60% (we knew he was a boy already from a private scan)
Proud mummy of 2 wonderful boys and now a 3rd one one the way

Jwoww, what a fab picture! My scan was only 2d at 20weeks, so definately couldnt see anything as clear as that - what a little cutie your baby is!

No, she didnt know we had all boys until after she told us the gender, then she asked what we already have. It was a routine NHS scan so the sonographer isnt allowed to say how sure she is even after ive signed a waiver. I know its possible she got a good view while doing the scan and just showed us the best she could at that time but she said she didnt look at gender until then once my husband was allowed in the room and i could see the screen the whole time she was doing all her measurements and not once did she look between the legs or did i see anything gender related during that time. I guess im just feeling like she gave us her best guess but wasnt totally sure and thats why she seemed so reluctant to tell us.

Yes I agree it sounds like a bit of guess work - I find with nhs scans they're not particularly fussed about telling you gender. Mine was nhs too and I didn't have to sign a waiver... I guess it just depends on pct's. Would you consider having your 3d scan put forward? I wouldn't be able to wait another 10 weeks either - how frustrating!
