I am a BIG fragrance person, I love my perfumes. Therefore when I read someone saying you can't wear perfume whilst breastfeeding I was shocked and am now thinking this is where I went wrong with DS. So my question is can you wear perfume? Not on your neck of course but on wrists/in hair?

I would go light on the perfume at the start when baby is learning to nurse. Momma's smell is really important and it helps with the process. Once baby has nursing down well and your supply is established well I think that it shouldn't be an issue. But at the start when you need baby to be using all of her instincts to get things going it's probably best for her just to be smelling your skin. Just a thought.

Thanks for clearing that up. I won't be leaving the house for the first week so I wouldn't be using it then. How long should I lay off? X

I didn't realize you were due so soon. How exciting! I think Southernbelle's advice is good. I'd say avoid the perfume until breastfeeding is well established, then try a little bit and see how it goes. If you notice any changes (baby refusing to nurse or being fussy, for example), you might want to back off on the perfume again. Good idea not to put it on your neck (or anywhere near your breasts). It is important for the baby to be able to recognize your smell.
