I hate to sound like a debbie down too, but odds are not in your favor that you will be successful in your 1st attempt. My RE told me (of course after my 1st failed cycle) that in reality only about 20% of couples walk away with a baby when attempting gender selection. It usually takes at least 2-3 attempts to work he says and many cannot spend that kind of money. Your 1st cycle is always going to be a "trial run", they don't know your body, they don't know how you will respond to the medication so doc's are more conservative the 1st attempt, you'll look back on things you would have liked to have done differently yourself...etc. I know my 2nd was a lot more successful than my 1st from what both I and the doctors learned, and it still did not work (not completely over yet though, still have a frozen bean but am trying not to be too optomistic). I wish I had the moeny to go a 3rd cycle. The doctor would do differently, maybe it would work, maybe not -- but I can't. I wish you much luck if you do decide to go through with ht.
